Touching Michelle Fields is Not the Political Issue. What the Campaign Did After Is….

candidate TrumpMichelle Fields has a beef with Corey Lewandowski over some contact to which she did not consent. I’ve stayed out of this, mostly, except for some remarks on GrokTALK!, all of which center on my only concern–the lying, obfuscation, and immediate move by the campaign and its advocates to destroy the reporter. No amount of video or commentary, or personal knowledge of Corey, or statements by witnesses about any actual contact is as important to me as what the Trump campaign did after Michelle Fields made her accusation.

The campaign, led by Mr. Lewandowski–whatever that really means–have one of the biggest media soap-boxes in recent memory. They could have used it for anything. They chose to lie and destroy someone whose telling of the events differed from the narrative they preferred.

While Ms. Fields may or may not have a case, that is between her, Corey, the stills, video, the laws regarding unwanted personal contact in that jurisdiction, and a judge or a jury, none of which has any bearing on how a Trump administration might run the executive branch. But the way the campaign and its media advocates and campaign supporters reacted in response to the charges tells us a great deal, all of it very troubling.

So you see, it makes little difference what we know or feel or think about Corey Lewandowski or Michelle Fields. What matters is that the campaign has yet again demonstrated a scorched earth policy with regard to anyone who poses even the slightest threat to their ascent to power. They are willing to destroy you and they will use their media allies to do that.

Remind you of anyone?

This is not supposition it is campaign “policy” so no matter what you may think or believe about Corey, and I have only good memories of him, he is part of this strategy. A strategy that has never been limited to political opponents.

We have no reason to believe this strategy will not expand to include you or I or that it will come to an end should Mr. Trump find his way to the Oval office.

That is what troubles me.

The fact that more than a few people I know in the conservative and liberty movement are not troubled by this troubles me even more.
