Mitt Romney doubles down on think you’re stupid

Mitt SlappedMethinks that Ryan Williams (to whom I am still not the Second Coming of thereof) ought to tell the lead tongued one he needs to change his patter when speaking about his speech, the perception that the grassroots has of him, and certainly the perception that he is solid rock core Establishment.  On the Sunday talking head shows, he just sounded clueless.  Example: with Chris Wallace interviewing him on Fox News Sunday, Mitt was just plain tone-deaf to both the question and with his answer (emphasis mine):

Wallace:

Here’s the criticism I’ve heard from some people; I guess that would include Rush Limbaugh about your speech. You certainly have a right, you know, First Amendment is there, to criticize Donald Trump and say why he’d be a bad President, but some people say that your speech was, their words, condescending and even undemocratic in the sense, in effect, what you’re saying is folks who are voting for Trump don’t understand what they are doing.

And did Mitt back down?  Did he say, even a little, “oopsies” or a nod to a little “mis-spoke there”.  Nope, he did not.  When I heard after the question was either a double down, a very dumb insistence, or just plain more tone-deafness.

Mittens:

No, I think folks need to understand the whole background of Donald Trump. I find, from time to time, I talk to people about the campaign and they say “Gsh, I didn’t know Trump gave a bunch of money to Jimmy Carter and Hillary Clinton and Harry Reid and John Kerry.

Sure, he used other words but the message that came out was clear – you don’t understand what you, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Sixpack,

Sidenote: Oh, was that a micro-aggression, referring to Mr. and Mrs. (Oh, the Patriarchy?  Oh, the servitude and objectification of women!) for any Feminist Social Justice Warrior that may have stumbled upon the ‘Grok?  Too bad – now go away and grow up.

what you don’t understand!  Stand there – I will ‘splain it to you!  You MUST listen to me (and by proxy, the Establishment) who DOES need to tell you who not to vote for (since you already aren’t listening to whom you SHOULD have been voting for all along – Jeb!

Wrong guy at the wrong time with the wrong message to the wrong people.  He JUST epitomized the great chasm between the GOPe and the grassroots in that interview.  What was the GOPe thinking when they punched him out to that stage – a guy who is last in line of a string of GOPe failed Presidential candidates once again lecturing people in what to do.

What should be stinging him is the fact that lots of people believe, as do I, that perhaps, just perhaps, if he had fought against Obama as hard in 2012 as he is swinging against Trump, just maybe he might have made it.

Silly as it seems, that seems to be the Establishment way – keep stomping on the grassroots but kidgloving the Democrat opponents and continue to advance their agenda (or, at best, not fighting hard against it).
