My oft-stated rule number one is that if it (whatever it may be) is a priority to the Democrat party then Republicans should have no part in it and everyone should run away from it. Rule number two? If the political class doesn’t like it, then it is good for the Republic, rule of law, individual rights, and liberty in general. This simple two-step guide works because progressives, regardless of party, will always tell you what they are afraid of.
They are afraid of Ted Cruz.

His fellow senators publicly denounce him and call him names. They yell at him behind closed doors and complain about him to their lobbyist friends. They hate him with a wild, deranging passion. The Beltway grandees, with their consulting contracts and expensive suits, would sooner die or move to Europe than live in the America he would govern.
And Cruz revels in their hatred.
No matter what he has ever done or said in the past, no matter what people claim he has said or done, whether you agree with him or trust him on every issue or don’t, the progressive, ruling class, big government establishment is more afraid of Cruz than anyone else seeking the office of the President of the United States.
If you are a platform Republican, Conservative, Libertarian, or even an Independent or Blue-collar Democrat who is tired of what the ruling class is doing to you from either side, you can’t get a better endorsement than the universal fear and hatred of Ted Cruz by that same ruling class. No other candidate represents a greater risk to their way of life than Cruz.
The primary competition to Cruz, at this point, is Donald Trump. Trump may seem like the outsider, he is running as one, but at the end of the day Trump is all about the deal. Because of this the ruling class is warming up to the idea of embracing Donald Trump, not just because he has leaned progressive on a number of issues in the past but because he loves making the deal. There is no principled conservationism driving his policy ideas. He is not beholden to the Constitution. In fact, he is not bound by anything or anyone, temporal or spiritual. Donald Trump would sign some bills that are squidgy around the edges, or even squidgy across the middle, if there are things in there he wants or needs. Trump will always want the better end of any deal, but he does not represent the threat to runaway Washington in the person of Ted Cruz.
Cruz is the bane of the Ruling Class. He’s the president we need now.
