Christie’s Evasions On Guns And Medicaid

What good is gravitas without honesty?

First Guns – if you’ve met Christie on the campaign trial, or if you’ve seen him in the debates, you’ll have heard questions about the draconian gun laws in NJ, and you’ll have heard some variation on the themes of the out-of-staters he’s pardoned and how he’s made it easier to get concealed carry permits during his term.

The NJ 2nd Amendment Society begs to differ, but just to make sure that permitting problems were not isolated to a small area, they canvassed multiple police departments across NJ the day after Christie’s debate statements – nothing’s improved in at least TEN YEARS!! Here’s the summary – you can watch the whole thing on YouTube.

But that’s not all folks, the man who would be king of entitlement reform has embraced the Obamacare expansion of Medicaid, not in defiance of his legislature like St John Kasich, but openly, in conjunction with his Democrat legislature in order to shore up New Jersey’s budget. That giant sucking sound in the vicinity of Trenton is the state’s firm attachment to the Federal money teat! National Review has the details

“Chris Christie did that, too!? For Pete’s sake,” says John Adams, a former Ohio legislator and a bitter opponent of Kasich’s Medicaid expansion. “No one knows that!”

A tale of two Medicaid-expanding governors..

Kasich used a legislative maneuver that rankled many Republicans to force his expansion through a rebellious statehouse, which left some conservative legislators feeling betrayed. He also suggested that opponents of the program weren’t true Christians — a message that angered anti-Obamacare Republicans in Ohio and nationwide.

medicade- Looks refreshing, but always comes back to haunt you laterChristie, by contrast, paints his own Medicaid expansion as a fiscal decision driven by New Jersey’s heavily Democratic legislature, and he refuses to moralize against conservatives who disagree with the move.
…..
Sheila Oliver, New Jersey’s assembly speaker and a Christie opponent, [said] “I think it was a purely financial decision,” pointing to New Jersey’s massive debt.
…..
[A]s his success invites greater scrutiny, heresies such as the Medicaid expansion could undermine his ability to compete in states still bitterly hostile to Obamacare, allowing Christie’s Republican rivals to question his commitment to entitlement reform, the central plank in his domestic agenda.

ChrisChristiePinocchioIn short, with Christie, it pays to research what he DOESN’T say on the campaign trail, because the WHOLE truth is rather less appealing! Also, don’t forget Justice Sotomayor – Christie was for her, before he was against her. Again, National Review has the sordid details of his evasions.
