Under the veneer of “the market”, the socialist appears – Lurch

Ah yes, John Kerry, US SecState, extols “the market” as it adapts to “the signal”.  Well golly, he sounds like an Austrian economist, doesn’t he, as he pontificates while at COP21, the big UN sponsored wealth redistribution fest under the umbrella of saving the planet. But I guess he thinks we all be stupid, eh Bruce Curie, as he already let the cat out of the bag (here).

The praise:

It’s the private sector, the next Elon Musk, Steve Jobs, is going to find a way to do battery storage for alternative and renewable energy. Or we’re going to find a way to burn energy or maybe this dream of fusion is going to be accelerated and actually have a commercial viability.  I don’t know the answer. But I have absolute confidence in the ability of capital to move where the signal of the marketplace says “go” after Paris.  And if 184 plus nations sign on to a durable agreement with review, accountability and transparency here in Paris, you watch, the world will begin to change.

Yes, the private sector DOES respond well to signals – but it is usually the signal from within the marketplace based on price.  Here, Lurch deliberately conflates free marketplace signaling with that of Government.  The difference?

The free marketplace is voluntary – it is where you and I make the decision that best suit us.  Not anyone else but with the power of our dollars, we tell producers what products we value AND at the price that provides value add to our standard of living.  Don’t meet that?  We don’t spend and manufacturers either adapt or go out of business.  But all in all, it is a VOLUNTARY system – unlike Bernie Sanders that says EVERYTHING is rigged, WE determine where our dollars go – no one else.

However, Lurch is NOT talking about the Free Marketplace even though he is talking about “the signal”.  The signal that he is quite happy about is the power of Government to DEMAND that products adapt – involuntarily to government diktats or go out of business.  The bit about “after Paris” says far more than just those two words – it is saying that Government has the right and will direct the private sector.

Gosh, if Government has that much control, I surmise that:

  • we no longer have a free market
  • the politicians (and NGOs and other hanger-oners) are all too happy to take those reins of the marketplace away from us
  • and the Land of the Free is only free within the bonds of what politicians allow
  • which means that Constitutional bounds no longer apply

And that is called Fascism – don’t believe me?  Look back to Italy in the 1920s and 30s.  And Lurch goes further in praising the loss of democracy and the freedom of people to choose for themselves:

And already, mayors, all across the world, are coming together to do things at the local level that they can order by administrative order.  Already you are seeing fleet purchases of automobiles change, building codes are changing.  President Obama has put into place the most ambitious climate action plans in the world.  We’ve doubled our car efficiency and truck.  We’re requiring our coal fired power plants have to begin to phase out. We have new standards for new power plants.  We have an incredible array of steps we are taking to meet this challenge.  And I think Paris’s importance is even without the fixed number and the legal shell, we are going to see an enormous amount of movement without creating political obstacles that prevent us from being able to send that signal.

Notice that he is just fine with “Administrative order” – no pesky legislation, no uppity legislators, no opposing Party.  Just rule by fiat.  It’s cool for the mayors.  And as a Progressive (as much as one as he is as full of himself) recounts, look at our “progress” – we in the Executive Branch have made ALL this life altering changes for our subjects citizens to live be ordered by – all by said Administrative decrees.  EPA and DOT doubled the MPG standard, all by themselves, that are telling us all “you will be driving smaller cars (and thus, have smaller families), we have decided that we have the power to determine what power sources you can use – thanks EPA for making that choice for us.

But the most hubris talking moment was the “even without the fixed number and the legal shell, we are going to see an enormous amount of movement”.  Translation: we don’t even need this global agreement, we don’t need to pass laws – we’re just going to make crap up – and as a result, subordinate our nation to that global community that functions ever so dandily at Davos and the UN.

No, I was wrong – the last half of that statement was even worse – the words of a wannabe-tyrant:

…without creating political obstacles that prevent us from being able to send that signal

“There will be no political obstacles” I take to be the furtherance of Obama’s pen and phone.  Lurch is depending on that to continue for if you bypass Congress, well, there are no political obstacles.  It doesn’t matter that you operate within Constitutional bounds, or within the budgetary constraints laid out in a Congressionally determined budget.

And he outright makes it clear: the private sector is now subservient to the public sector.  GOVERNMENT will control the signal – not we, the people.  And Government is to be obeyed.  And as we are seeing in Venezuela, when Government controls the signals, only misery, desperation, and poverty arrive unless you are one of the Cronies.
