“…the simulations concluded that if more innocent people were armed…

…less casualties would occur”.  Over at The Truth About Guns is this short post on an active shooter simulation created by a PhD student at Perdue’s Homeland Security Institute:

The simulation technology allows him to adjust police response time, concealed carry probability, and whether or not security guards are present during a shooting. He said all of these variables are something every venue should consider. “We want you to use our model to determine what solution is best for you,” said Kirby. He said overall, the simulations concluded if more innocent people were armed, less casualties would occur. Same goes with more security guards and faster police response times.

Well, faster police response times can only occur with much higher levels of police staffing – with the requisite tax bite.  We all know that seconds count; if you live in a mid to large sized metropolis, how many police would you be willing to put up with financially to have an almost instantaneous response time?  And armed guards also raise prices higher – There Ain’t No Such Thing As A Free Lunch, boys and girls, for if there are fewguards  around (and IF armed) on a large campus (think the Navy Shipyard shooting), the only “on the spot” responses are the true First Responders…

…us.  You and I.

Does carrying automatically make you both a “bad dude” and a survivor?  If you either, you’re stupid and will get others killed.  It may end up doing nothing – but I’d rather take that chance and outlook that I refuse to be a victim.  Who knows, maybe I’d be of good service to my fellow citizens as well (though I’d rather never have to find that out)
