Faux Filer – Ben Carson

Ben Carson lost me a long time ago, when he made this blunder of a statement in 2013 on the Glenn Beck program.  Today, he’s doubling down.

Essentially, he used his lack of “political experience” to explain why he thought people in urban/populated areas should be prohibited from having semi-automatic weapons – but not people in “rural areas”.

Bill Gardner Frisked by Clinton campaign

While attempting to walk this foolish statement back, Carson said, “Early on, when I entered the political arena and I was asked the question about guns, I didn’t know at that time that you always start that off by saying how important the Second Amendment is and that you will never compromise that”.

This statement is almost as idiotic.  A caveat does not cleanse or absolve you from making incorrect, egregious statements.  This type of relativism is typical of politicians today and is sadly pervasive in our culture.

Not educating himself on such a vital topic, before going on a nationally syndicated program, then following up with such a weak-ass excuse, shows a fundamental lack of good judgement in Ben Carson.

My negative gut instincts about Carson were validated at that moment – and a few times since then.

Well….flash forward to today, November 20, 2015.  Ben Carson, now a pending Presidential candidate, is planning to file for the New Hampshire Primary, at the state house in Concord.

Most candidates use this event as an opportunity to show their “folksy”, “populist” side.  Secretary of State, Bill Gardner, shows off the portraits of famous New Hampshirites in the hallway, as well as photos of famous (and not-so-famous) former Presidential candidates.  And this year, in particular, the famous “Richmond Box” will be on display, along with the desk of the man who proposed our primary election system, NH Rep. Stephen Bullock, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the New Hampshire Primary.  It’s a fun moment for both the candidate and the supporters who show up, hoping to be witness to an historic event.

Ben Carson NH Filing Thread

But Ben Carson’s moment today will be tainted with more than a bit of hypocrisy, plus another example of poor judgement.  You see, Ben Carson will have a Secret Service detail with him (why?) and they insist that no firearms be present at the filing.  Additionally, that floor of the State House, and its exits, will be sealed off so that those in attendance can be screened for weapons.  Just a couple weeks ago, on November 10, another candidate brought Secret Service along, insisting on the same “gun free zone” (except for the security detail, of course) for their filing.  Hillary Clinton’s entourage even went as far as frisking Bill Gardner, who has been the NH Secretary of State since 1976.

Now, if you don’t already know, New Hampshire is a place where the Second Amendment protection of its proud citizens is infringed only ever-so-slightly.  And this natural right of self defense, protected by BOTH the Second Amendment and Article 2-A of the New Hampshire Constitution, is taken more than seriously.

But Ben Carson’s campaign, like Hillary’s, would rather push that under the rug, if only for today.  He claims that he is a “strong supporter of the Second Amendment” and, referencing his quote above, that we should “never compromise that”.

Violating our state laws, as well as our honored and revered local privilege, is more than just a compromise; it is an insult and it exposes the very nature of who Ben Carson is – and isn’t.

Stooping to this level of insult and display of elitism and entitlement cannot be walked back, or ever excused.

“Life Free or Die!” (except when Hillary Clinton or Ben Carson are present)
