Instead of pledging fealty to the Party…

Methinks (and a lot of others) believe that the Trump phenomena is really starting to flush out the horror, tears, and sackcloth rendering within the Smart People of the Party.  When it all comes down to it, however, it is all about the slipping away of power from the Establishment as they just can’t control The Donald.  They understand the surge that is his followers and understand that it is they that can throw the real monkey-wrench into all their well laid plans (like the plans of President Ford, Dole, McCain, and Romney).  So we have this stupidness rising again:

The Republican National Committee on Wednesday privately reached out to GOP presidential campaigns to ask whether they’d be willing to sign a pledge stating they would not run as an independent candidate in the event they fail to win the Republican nomination in 2016.  “I [name] affirm that if I do not win the 2016 Republican nomination for president of the United States I will endorse the 2016 Republican presidential nominee regardless of who it is,” the pledge reads. “I further pledge that I will not seek to run as an independent or write-in candidate nor will I seek or accept the nomination for president of any other party.”

At least two campaigns reported they received a call from Katie Walsh, RNC chief of staff, asking if they would be willing to sign such a pledge.

This is desperation multiplied but they have only themselves to blame; you have brought him upon yourselves.   NOW, there are all kinds of “Republicans” who are pointing out, especially Jeb Bush, how bad of a Republican Trump has been in the past.  Seriously, that’s all they’ve got?  I find this highly amusing, given the fact that many of his followers have “left” the Republicans because the Party’s politicians have themselves failed to “act as good Republicans”.  They have determined that the Trust they once gave to Republicans was abused and no longer worth their “value add” expensive vote.

So if they can’t Trust Republicans that the Republican Republicans for the sake of the Republican Party say they should, why not someone like Trump?  After all, even if Trump was pro-choice, isn’t NH GOP Committeeman Steve Duprey?  If he’s gone bankrupt and had liens on his properties, well, so hasn’t NH GOP Chair Jennifer Horn?  And if he was for Universal Healthcare, well, look at NH State Senate Republicans Chuck Morse, Jeb Bradley and Nancy Stiles who brought in yet another step towards that with Medicaid Expansion.  So, these examples hit home in NH and probably all over the nation there are similar examples.  Remember, lawlessness starts from the top and if one can define lawlessness in the Republican venue as ignoring the Platform, well, there you go.

Speaking of which, instead of pledging fealty to the Party, what about to its Principles?  Which is more important?  The Party or its Principles?   I can give you a hint that should answer that, in the form of a question:

When you go into the military, when you ascend to a political seat, you swear to, not a person, not to an office, but to a set of Principles – that of the Constitution, right?

So why not at the Party level?  Yeah, I know – lots of mouth movements, tongue wagging – and a lot of Republicans lie to us even on those (e.g., say they do and then don’t). So, does it make any difference anymore?

Sure will – just ask Ford, Dole, McCain, and Romney when the expected turnouts turned to home instead of the polls.  With what one would expect an urgency to get every vote out, these chuckleheads have decided that up to 30% of today’s Republican electorate can just be tossed by double-crossing and changing the rules mid-stream (can we call that Sununu-ism?).

Yup, that’ll win them some elections.  No win, smaller Party, but dang, they’ll still be in charge.  And isn’t that what really counts?

Payback – what a beeyotch.  That’s what they’d get for demanding their own sort of “Purity”, eh?
