Universal Pre-K? The Progressive way of having YOUR kids taken over by Government

“I’ll be free of them four days a week!!”

Mom and babyYeah, that was the exclamation of one mother of young children when she heard that her two kids were going to be in school through the summer in Special Ed class. Not a word was said at that point in time about the help they “might” get – just that she now had all that time for herself.  At government expense.  She was ecstatic!   Sigh….my wish is that all young parents would be this: whose hand should be rocking YOUR child’s cradle?

Progressives (if you have been listening to Hillary Clinton and Obama for the last few years) have been pushing for this for decades – but why?  Well, in their mindset, every woman must fulfill their her destiny – and that, in their mind, can only be done in the workplace.  A stay-at-home Mom?  Doing what I think is the most important job in the world?  Well, Progressives know EXACTLY what that is – raising children.  These incremental Socialists understand that completely and THAT is the goal that they are striving for.  They KNOW that whoever raises the child owns the future – for values taught young last forever in most cases.  If a child is spending far more time in hands of government run and NEA staffed schools than with their parents, whose values are going to be inculcated? Already we see teachers believing that parents are an impediment and that THEY know what is best for the kids and less and less, no longer hiding it. Let’s face it, government school staffs are highly critical of conservative and religious values – vast majorities ARE in the Party of Government and are Progressives themselves.  This from Hot Air:

Before Barack Obama exits stage Left, the Democrats have more plans up their sleeves in terms of “cementing his legacy” as an architect of the next stage of the Great Society. The newest proposal to be unveiled will be labeled “Universal Child Care” but it’s actually just a federal level plan to provide pre-K programs for toddlers in families earning less than 200% of the poverty level. Liberal gadfly Gred Sargent is eager to share the news.

Universal child care is becoming a central pillar of the liberal agenda — one that, if it is ever realized, could take its place alongside some of the great progressive reforms of the 20th Century, and possibly the Affordable Care Act, as a defining achievement of the Democratic Party.

I’m told that Senate Democrats in coming days will roll out a new universal pre-kindergarten proposal that would be funded by the closing of corporate tax breaks. If it gets a vote — and Dem leaders plan to push hard for one — it will put members of both parties on record as to whether they support national action to dramatically expand the availability of child care to poor and working families.

The proposal — to be introduced this week by Senator Bob Casey of Pennsylvania — is called the Strong Start for America’s Children Amendment, and Casey plans to introduce it as an amendment to a measure reauthorizing and overhauling No Child Left Behind, which will be debated in the Senate starting tomorrow.

The plan would spend $30B dollars which would be set aside in block grants and distributed to states which move on their own to provide high quality, universally available pre-school programs for four year olds in qualifying families. (The “qualifying” section is actually pretty clever, since rather than just providing these benefits to those actually in poverty it takes in a significant chunk of the middle class. It’s a populist gift wrapping technique.) States which already provide such services could take the money to expand them to three year olds.

When running our daycare, what I saw rather shocked me.  TMEW would be in the lobby when children were dropped off and when they were picked up.  Once the little ones got past their separation anxiety in first coming to the daycare, they would often run to her and just ignore their parents. The parents would be standing there and you could read it in their faces: What just happened.  S’alright, it got worse as in the evening when the parents finally came to pick up their kids (yes, some were there from 6am until 6pm – see where this is going??) – they would cry and run…

…to TMEW.  Not their parents.  There were several times when either the Mom or the Dad just broke down at that point.  They understood that TMEW ONLY had their childrens’ best interest at heart (and I can truthfully say she did love them, too) so in a way, they understood. But they ALSO knew that in a number of ways, they were being supplanted by TMEW (and the staff who were taught to do things her way).  I’ll tell you, it was not easy when these episodes happened

Sidenote: TMEW had the reputation of being a “Pied Piper”; it happened EVERYWHERE  she ever taught – schools, daycares, Sunday Schools.  She just has that way with children…

Yes, they spent the majority of their time in our care and if they started out as babies, our hands were the hands that rocked the cradle (literally).  But we knew our place – we were merely stand-ins for their real parents and we did try to work that way.  Progressives?

They will be crying that there is yet another crises – that Moms HAVE to be in the workforce with no way to do so as their “kids are in the way”.  So Government MUST gift everyone, via other peoples’ money, stuff that makes THEM more dependent on them.  And yes, they will teach that value to your kids.

With this, I do ask: why bother having kids if the Government is going to take them from you?  No, it will be framed as “naw, we’re just helping you out”.

No, they will be helping themselves to your kids.  After all, isn’t Government “family”?  Progressives certainly want you to think so…
