The Establishment Party on Trump; what part of “You have brought him upon yourselves”

is it that you don’t get?  Much part of the base’s angst is often due to the perception that the Establishment “picks” the Party’s candidate, this is just craziness (emphasis mine):

GOP donors wanted Bush, Rubio, and Walker to boycott debates unless Trump was disqualified

So, so dumb, but that’s our donor class for you.

Many national Republican officials are increasingly resigned to Mr. Trump’s looming presence. At a meeting of the Republican Governors Association this week in Aspen, Colo., donors and operatives mused about how to prevent him from hijacking the debate.

One idea that came up was to urge three leading candidates — Jeb Bush, the former Florida governor; Mr. Walker; and Senator Marco Rubio of Florida — to band together and state that they would not participate in any debate in which Mr. Trump was present, using his refusal to rule out a third-party bid as a pretext for taking such a hard line. The thinking, according to a Republican involved in the conversations, was that the lesser-funded prospects who have been eclipsed by Mr. Trump would follow suit, and the TV networks airing the debates would be forced to bar Mr. Trump in order to have a full complement of candidates.

Allahpundit has is own reasons why this is such a dumb reason.  Mine is different (and I already gave away the spoiler):

As I have stated before, and is now being echoed by a lot of pundits around the blogosphere, is that the GOP has brought Trump upon themselves.  If they had been doing their jobs right in the Party, if the elected candidates actually lived their campaign promises, Trump would never had had the chance that he does now.  The fact that people ARE listening to him and ARE pledging support to him, no matter how “offensive” he sounds to the Elites, is the indication that the Party has screwed up big time.  Let me spell it out, yet one more time, these people see him as being NO WORSE than what the GOP recent history has given them – people who have outright lied to them as to what they ALL would do once gaining their offices and the majorities these people helped give the GOP.  Let me repeat – these people see you have lied.  These people see you have reneged on your Platform.  On issue after issue, they heard the words and now they see results they didn’t vote for (or, worse, results they thought their votes would get – and aren’t getting them).

Trump is succeeding because of one large item these supposedly Smart People either can’t understand, won’t see, or know themselves that they’ve been “tricking the rubes” for a long time.  And now they are rebelling.

Once again I bring up something that I’ve been saying for a long time here in NH – the NH GOP has to win 51%.  I only have to persuade 0.25 – 1.5% of that electorate to not vote and given the above, they are willing not to spend their precious vote on someone that will fail them yet again.  This will hold true in the general…

…if they perceive that those in Power at the tops of the Party have “put the fix in”.  I know some of the folks here in NH that have come out for Trump – trust me, they will be active.  Deny them their candidate by the subterfuge outlined in the quote, they will turn on the Party – and I won’t have to write a syllable at all.

The last couple of Prez elections have been lost by percentages in very strategic places.  While I spoke above of NH, I am sure it will happen nationwide.   How’s that gonna work out for ya?

We hear all too often from the Establishment about “unity” – implementing the above or any other trickery along the way to the convention will show the base that “Unity” is no better, believable, or trustworthy than “If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor”.  Do that and you will end up with a third party – just to spite you.

And until you learn your lessons, that might not be such a bad idea….
