[youtube=https://youtu.be/eu77aiLXTNQ&align=right&w=240] Don’t mess with Texas Ted! That warning ought to be tattooed on Mitch Mulch McConnell’s forehead as a warning that the voters are getting tired of delivering Republican majorities which do nothing to rein in big government.
Specifically at issue is how our REPUBLICAN majority leader secured votes for the President’s Trade Promotion Authority (‘Fast Track’) by cutting a deal with supporters of the Export-Import (ExIm) Bank to give them a chance to resurrect it on the back of a ‘must pass’ bill.
Note the words of Sen. Jim Inhofe , who said on the Senate floor earlier Wednesday that there would be an open amendment process. “However, that decision ultimately falls to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.”
That was then (Wednesday), this is now (Friday) – Instead of “any Senator *could* attempt to re-authorize ExIm via the open amendment process, McConnell emulated his supposed nemesis (Reid), by allowing just two amendments to be attached, and then “filling the tree”, preventing any further proposed amendments.
Numero Uno was the ExIm re-authorization, offered by McConnell himself, and the second was a vote, called cynical by Harry Reid with good reason, to kill Obamacare. The first is guaranteed to pass, resurrecting the zombie bank, which the second is guaranteed to fail, but hey, it looks good for the rubes who vote for us!
This, in a nutshell, is what drove Cruz to unload on McConnell in public – re-authorizing a program which is pure crony corporatism, and then putting on a cynical show for the voters back home, and doing so after lying to Cruz’s face in front of the entire Senate GOP caucus..
