And this is one reason why I rarely take environmentalists seriously anymore. After all, when in college in the late 70s, the headlines were all chock-a-block about a new Ice Age coming and we’re all gonna die!! From the San Jose Mercury News 6/30/89:
A senior environmental official at the United Nations, Noel Brown, says entire nations could be wiped off the face of the earth by rising sea levels if global warming is not reversed by the year 2000. Coastal flooding and crop failures would create an exodus of “eco-refugees,” threatening political chaos, said Brown, director of the New York office of the U.N. Environment Program. He said governments have a 10-year window of opportunity to solve the greenhouse effect….
So in 1989, they said we had 10 years. Now 25 years later,
the world’s economy has gotten far better thanks to trade and capitalism, the population has gone up and not down, and while we have refugees streaming from all kinds of places, the root cause is not that the Earth is turning into hell from temperature but rather a living hell from Islamic Jihadists (ask yourself – where are the greatest out-migrations happening and which war are they fleeing from?). And now, what is being postulated in some corners due to low solar activity by the Sun, we come full circle with worried looks of “another Ice Age”.
And remember, while NOAA and NASA are fiddling and changing ground based temperatures such that the Maunder Minimum has been erased, the RSS data (satellite) has shown an 18.5 year nullity for temp increase in the atmosphere. Meanwhile, these “Earth is BURNING!” twits rack up a FAR larger carbon footprint trapsing from one meeting (attended by 10s of thousands flying hither and yon) to yet another one a few months later and the only thing accomplished is creating a lot of jet carbon and vocal hot air.
