Civil Obedience

Without a cell phone my “hands are free” for other things…

The New Hampshire cell phone ban went in to force today. It is a complete ban on handheld electronic devices in the hands of drivers with very few exceptions. State and local police have voiced their plan for months. Aggressive enforcement. No tolerance.

But with aggressive enforcement comes a great increase in court appearances. Do you civic duty. Don’t just mail your fine in, take it to court.

As I said at the beginning of this segment, (I’m paraphrasing here) crowds of people need to appear at the court house doors in every town or county daily, tickets in hand, to do their civic duty. Appear before a judge to ensure due process is properly served, even if you plan to pay the fine. Call it aggressive civic obedience.

This is a bad law. So make it worse. Back the courts up. And while you are at it, call your state rep and demand repeal, not just once, but often. Call your state senator, especially the Republicans, who never should have allowed this past them last year when the then Democrat House passed it on to them.

Call Shawn Jasper, speaker of the NH House. Call Chuck Morse, Jeb Bradley, and in particular–Nancy Stiles. Call legislative leadership. Text, email, call them every damn day. Call them while you are standing in line at the court house, doing your civic duty. Call them from your cell phone.

If you do not demand repeal you will never get it and will forever more be punished for the whimsy of progressive busy-bodies who  legislate on feelings instead of facts.
