2016 Presidential Primary – Donald Trump – another musing (quick)

I am no fan of John McCain.  Yes, GraniteGrok “fought” for him back in 2008 but it was more against Obama (who we knew back then that he’d eventually start acting like he has the last few years – his Communist / Muslim background demanded it just as much as a leopard cannot change its spots). He has, however, supported policies that are definitively not conservative but he has tried to play one in his Senatorial campaigns – just long enough to be elected.  Too many times, “Maverick” has double crossed Party principles in his “crossing the aisle”.  That said, one has to give him his due for his service during Viet Nam and his incarceration as a P.O.W. when his jet was shot down.

I’ve done a fair amount of writing about Trump lately (the last and longest one here).  No, not that he is my guy but to try to show that the people who have been flocking to his rallies have had their internal mindsets and political worldview (i.e., the general Republican candidates, officials, and elected office holders have failed them in failing to live up to their promises with looked for actions).  That said, and their angst that strong, the attack on McCain will have the effect, even if McCain blew the first spitball by calling out Trump for “activating the ‘crazies'”.

Trump (I believe) set off a trip wire with those same people – many of them are staunch supporters of the military.  Not because they are militaristic, but they honor and support those that have put on the uniform of the United States.  They see the military as a force for good – and not just for the frontline “tip of the spear” like my Youngest was.  Even those serving in the backlines (like my Eldest) are seen as having put themselves in possible harm’s way.  Especially the last few conflicts where there has been no set “front line”.  They realize that war is now 24/7 and that the idea of a front line has now transmogrified to be one akin to islands and water – groups of American warfighters and support cadre surrounded constantly by those that would kill them if given a chance.  There is no “rear” where there is relatively safety”.

Sidenote: Not even here in the Homeland as we saw last week where yet another lone Muslim terrorist has now killed more Marines and sailors on American soil.  Yet, because Obama has previously said in his book that he would always take the side Muslims when the chips are down, I bet it will be simply called “undetermined” in cause.  Because: Christian Crusades (were, historically, only in reaction to Muslims overtaking formerly Christian holdings, btw).

Anyone else a bit ticked off by seeing the White House bathed in the gay rainbow colors at their success at the Supreme Court – but not in Red, White, and Blue to honor our own fallen?

You may well see a big drop off in support for Trump.  While his stock may have risen the last few weeks because of his tapping into emotions and observations of failure of the Republican Party, attacking someone in one of their “protected classes” will have effect.

Only time will tell, but I think there will be a negative effect.  The other candidates and Party good old boys still must be careful because if his base sees this as a piling on, they may react even more resolutely against the Party.

Let’s see, after this first initial pushback correctly being applied, if they go too far themselves.  There is a real opportunity to peel some of those folks off from him and I think the best person to do so would be Ted Cruz.  Let’s see if that happens.
