An Open Letter to the Sea of Presidential Primary Candidates

“A charlatan makes obscure what is clear; a thinker makes clear what is obscure.” — Hugh Kingsmill

new-hampshire-2-600x397Another day has passed and another two candidates have declared their intent to seek the Republican Presidential Nomination. Governor Chris Christie and Governor Bobby Jindal. Eventually all will come to New Hampshire, so please consider this an open letter of advice to all comers.

I do not care what the hacks and professionally paid handlers tell you. Fact is, if you do not secure the support of the second Amendment constituency, you simply cannot win.

First, do not come here and tell us you support the second amendment if, in prior public offices held, you voted for gun control measures, the assault weapons ban or universal background checks. We fact check that stuff.

grade-a-bullshitSecond, do not come courting us for our support if you intend to lie to us, like Mitt Romney did. Mitt Romney claimed himself a hunter and a second amendment supporter, yet signed many of Massachusetts draconian gun laws. Or Senator Scott Brown who claimed to be a supporter and then called for an all out ban on so-called “assault weapons.” Scott Brown also outright lied about his NRA Rating.

Third, Know your facts. The second amendment community is well-informed. we know gun facts, crime facts and we know when you don’t know. If you do not know gun terminology, don’t try and fake it. The whole audience has their B.S.-o-meters running full tilt.

Finally, Know where we stand. We do not need universal background checks. Law-abiding citizens already fill out a ATF form 4473 NICS when they purchase a gun. More restrictions only penalize law-abiding citizens, because criminals don’t obey the law anyway. Stop with all this “assault weapons” nonsense. Remember what happened in Congress after the 1994 Assault Weapons ban passed? Assault Weapon is a misnomer…a hoplophobic term.

Keep your presentation sincere, and your pandering to a minimum.
