Planned Politicianhood

Was RNC Committeeman Steve Duprey about to accidentally “abort” GOP candidates from debates?

After admitting he “accidentally” attended a Planned Parenthood fundraising event, it seems his idea of cutting things short may, in fact, be instinctive:

“I think there’s consensus to cap it [the number of candidates] between nine and 12.”

But is Mr. Duprey about to face his own D&C?

Party officials, increasingly anxious about the growing field and the GOP’s ability to limit the number of participants on the debate stage this fall, arrived at last weekend’s RNC spring meeting in Arizona expecting a committee-wide discussion about structural guidelines for the debate season. That discussion, to the surprise of some RNC members, never took place.

Not to worry.

In an interview following the meeting, Duprey walked back his remarks—and acknowledged that they drew some internal rebuttal from senior RNC officials. “I was trying to give a range, and the range I was giving was just from watching old YouTube clips and seeing how many people were on the stage,” Duprey said. “So Sean[Spicer] is right: There is no cap. The goal is to have as many credible candidates on stage as possible while still having a productive debate and discussion.”‘

Whew. Had me worried there for a minute……….
