Why America Invaded Iraq

Of course it may start a little debate. Prager U’s viewpoint is totally wrong. They push the NeoCon story line.
But no one should be surprised considering the background of it’s founder.

Real pity too. I subscribed to Prager U videos. This one must have missed the QA check.

This video is a neo-con fantasy. Attacking Iraq to promote a democratic Middle East was a pipedream, and the Iraq war has had the opposite effect–unleashing a cascade of destabilizing effects on the region. Those who promoted the war: Max Boot, the Kagans, the Kristols, Krauthammer etc, should have had the grace to slink away and never be heard from again. When all is said and done, the Iraq War is likely to have cost between 2 and 3 trillion $, while leaving in its wake–since we destroyed its infrastructure–a failed state. And that’s not counting the shame of Abu Ghraib. We’ve been making enemies faster than we can kill them at least since Carter and Brezinski decided helping the Afghan war lords and mujahadeem was a good thing. Or maybe since 1953, when the Dulles brothers engineered the coup against Mossadegh in Iran. And we wonder why they hate us–we just can’t leave them alone. How DID our oil get under their sand?

Yeah, and Obama’s deal with the Iranian mullahs will convince them not get the Bomb….two can play this game.

      • Herb

Going to take your ball and go home? The article you posted in on Iraq not Iran. Bruce is entirely right – the Iraq war was a total disaster that cost us dearly.

        • granitegrok

Actually, Steve put up this post. And I’ll throw in that by having Obama unilaterally retreating from Iraq simply to keep a campaign promise without regarding the actual situation helped to create the vacuum that gave rise to ISIS – and now Obama is trying to ally himself with the Mullahs that killed my son’s best friend when he was deployed in Afghanistan by an Iranian shaped charge IED. So now, because of Obama, we have Iranian troops in Iraq extending THEIR hegemony (including Syria, Lebanon, and Yemen). Yeah, this is gonna end up with them trying to wipe Israel off the map. I guess you dudes are hunky with that, eh? And guess which country will be next after “the little Satan”? Hint: every Friday, go listen to their chants…..

The post was on Iraq. You brought up Iran and now you’ve brought in Afghanistan. Stick to the subject. The United States consists of 5% of the world’s population and we cannot continue fighting the world’s battles. The reason we attacked Iraq was because of oil and the fact the Iraqi oil production was not at the levels the neo-cons thought it should be. The idiots figured the Iraqi people would fall all over themselves welcoming us as their savior but it didn’t happen that way did it. The war ended up costing this country over 2 trillion dollars,
4,500 dead, and 32,000 wounded. The neo-cons promised the American people that Iraqi oil would pay for the war – how did work out? You want us to trust the neo-cons again? I don’t think so.

You changed subjects (even though he didn’t) is Progressive speak for don’t confuse me with the facts.

There is NO alternative to continuing to seek a negotiated agreement with Iran. Iran is not, as Netanyahu tried to paint it, an irrational actor bent on a suicidal mission to wipe out Israel. One way or another, Iran is likely eventually to have the ability to construct nuclear weapons. The only way to deal with Iran now is by dealing fairly with them, which will strengthen the forces of moderation. Another war will enmesh us in more chaos long into the future. Between the 1953 coup, our subsequent installation and support of the Shah, and our support for Saddam during the Iran/Iraq war, the Iranians have had good reason to mistrust our motives.

        • Don

Bruce Currie actually wrote: “Iran is not, as Netanyahu tried to paint it, an irrational actor bent on a suicidal mission to wipe out Israel.”

I’ve encountered bricks with better critical thinking skills.

Ugh. Prager University usually has great videos. This one was a total flop. Rift with inconsistencies and peppered with overloaded adjectives. Yikes.

This was laid out beautifully. I’ve always believed this was the correct intention. In a sociopathic scheme, the Democratic Party, the national media, and ill-informed libertarians turned against the Iraq war in order to destroy President Bush. Progressives needed a war to oppose to save face after they had jumped head first into the Afghanistan War after 911. This scheme allowed them to reclaim their non-violent disguise. We know they only support violence against rich white Americans, Conservatives, are corporations. When this scheme unfolded I vowed to never vote for a Democrat at any level again. They exploited national security for power.
