Democrat Rep Myler demeans his constituents who are against Common Core

commoncoreToday the New Hampshire House Education Committee the executive session was held on Senate Bill 101 (SB 101). It is a bill that will prohibit the state from requiring the implantation of Common Core. The bill is sponsored by Republicans in both the senate and the house. It was sought after by parents across the Granite State who are already experiencing the nightmare and lowered standards of Common Core.

Representative Mel Myler, a Democrat from Hopkinton/Concord Ward 5 district, apparently isn’t a fan of the bill. He also isn’t a fan of the parents who are against Common Core or his constituents. During the committee hearing today Myler actually said he was “tired of receiving emails that are misinformed, that have wrong information in them”.

He claims that he’s checked with his schools and they are deeply engaged with Common Core and doing the testing and there is no problem. Myler then makes the statement that “change is difficult.” He says that Common Core is challenging students and parents then claims that what New Hampshire had in the past is not going to meet the demands of the future.

First, as a state representative he should be encouraging his constituents to contact him and engage in the political process. He is supposed to represent all in his area and not just those who agree with him. Second, how dare he denigrate his own constituents by claiming they are the ones who are misinformed? These are the people who are experiencing Common Core is firsthand with their children on a daily basis.

The bill passed with all Republicans voting for the bill with the exception of Terry Wolf who voted with Democrats against the bill. Interesting Myler hails from California and has been a leader in the teachers unions for many years – first as state president of the California Teachers Association then in New Hampshire as the executive director of the NEA. If you recall, unions were given millions of dollars to push Common Core across the country. Ironic when Myler was running for office his #1 priority was “bring civility back to the legislative process.”

It’s clear which side of the aisle Myler stands on and why – he’s with the unions who pushed Common Core. Unfortunately he’s hurting the students and parents who have to suffer through it. He is a representative who refuses to listen to his own constituents and chooses to dismiss them as if he knows better than they do. It’s this type of attitude that has angered parents across the country. It is parents who know what is best for their children. Myler owes his constituents an apology. This isn’t some game parents are playing, this is their children’s future.
