The Proper Role of Government – for who?

I generally watch the Sunday talking head shows – it’s a good bet that someone will say something either stupid, controversial, or revealing.  This from former Labor Secretary Robert Reich said the following back on the 1/11 This Week (yeah, forgot about this one) concerning Elizabeth Warren and whether she would be the Democrat’s Progressives Prez candidate; it is the revealing type:

I don’t think she’s going to run but I do think she is trying to change the debate in this country so it’s not simply about how big government should be but who government should be for.

Gosh, back in school I was taught that our Government is supposed to be for everyone – no discriminating and we were supposed to be treated all the same.  Since starting GraniteGrok, I have certainly learned a newer lesson that LOTS of people want Government to serve specific people – themselves and their cronies especially, well, pretty much every level.  But that’s the micro view.  Here, Reich, the academic, is at the macro level and shows that Progressives like himself (and Warren) believe that the power of Government is not to be used for the good of all but for certain people.  After watching the Left’s game for a while now, you can be sure that IF Government is “for” one group, it will be used to be against another (or others). We’ve already seen that happen – the IRS targeting of the conservative (mostly TEA Party) organizations.  Progressives see control of Government, in the hardest of ball, as a political spoil of war. To do with as they see fit.

We’re seeing that in spades right now; want more of that?
