Broken Chair

Broken Chair

So, a fellow Republican, from your home town, attacks you on social media. He accuses you of being “a total Conservative fraud”, “working for Organizing for America”, being a “Conservative In Name Only”, and negatively equates you with “Obama’s second term”.

These attacks were not only baseless; they were foolish and immature.

These attacks were presumably made by the Chairman of my local Republican Committee on the morning of December 13, 2014.  This was the day our County Republican organization held its convention and elected its new State Committee Members.  Being a publicly elected Party delegate, I planned to attend the meeting and participate in this vote.  I also chose to add my name to the ballot, wanting to become a State Committee member myself.

However, this very-last-minute, half-baked attempt at casting me as a traitor to the party – with the intent of thwarting my quest to become a State Committee member – backfired, because I won my election that day.  I attribute my win to the personal and collegial relationships I have developed with many of the fine delegates who showed up that day and decided to put a check next my name.

But there’s more!

With all sincere humility, let’s put aside my blogging against Marxists, socialists, statists, and assorted enemies of liberty and the Constitution.  And let’s forget for a moment my activities to help plan and conduct protests and rallies in support of Conservative causes.  Finally, let’s ignore the personal time and hard-earned money I’ve spent this (and prior) election cycles, doing my part to help good people in their quests for State-level office (with a very high percentage of success, I might add), because my professional schedule precludes me from running for office myself.

Milford NH Republican Chair

This “attack” (if you can call it that) shows what some people will stoop to when their intentions have been challenged, or they perceive that their comfortable status-quo is in jeopardy.

What I mean is that I previously critiqued the Chair of the Milford GOP when he ran for State Representative in 2012, for his active membership (treasurer) in the Nashua Regional Planning Commission (RPC).  I questioned whether his motives were pure – was he a Conservative working within the RPC to keep it in check, or was he simply a misguided, idealistic (yet naïve) Republican, not aware of the damage the RPCs have caused in New Hampshire over the years?

I felt that I couched my critique as a fair question needing to be answered, rather than a damning accusation.  He disagreed.

It is no secret that I criticize some Republicans and party apparatchik for not following the State Republican Party Platform or for facilitating (sometimes even advocating) notions that fly in the face of the principles the Republican Party is supposed to fight for: smaller, cheaper, non-intrusive government, fiscal responsibility, personal accountability, and individual liberty.

Too many times, we see bold and bright examples of Republicans who make decisions based on political correctness, the desire to be liked, personal gain, or just plain-old power grabbing.  This hurts the country, our state, and the Republican brand and should not go unchallenged; but some in the party feel this is egregious and fight those of us who dare speak out, instead of criticizing the violators themselves.

So, I can imagine that Andy has been chomping at the bit for some time, looking for that perfect moment to embarrass me and ruin all political ventures and relationships I undertake and make.  After all, I’m dangerous because I “support Libertarians”.  The horror.

Well, Andy, I’m sorry but you had your chance and you failed.

Not only did you fail at painting a scarlet letter on my chest, you abused your position as the Milford Republican Committee Chairman.  Since you posted this attack on the quasi-official “Milford NH Republican Party” Facebook page, you were speaking on behalf of the entire membership of the committee.  Looking at the official committee website (which links to said Facebook page), I see no option to scan meeting minutes for a motion on a resolution to censure me, with members voting on it.  I also don’t see any mention of this on the Facebook page.

So, tell me, was such a motion made for a resolution and were the attending members allowed to vote on this accusation, or were you just spewing a personal grievance on the committee’s public slate?

I’d like to know what the Hillsborough Country Republican Executive Committee and the NH State GOP think of this.  Do they condone one of their town committee chairs publishing personal information, such as a delegate filing form with the person’s home address, on his town committee’s Facebook page?  Do they consider this professional behavior and a credit to the NH Republican Party?

The members of the Milford Republican Committee deserve an explanation and an apology for this act of speaking negatively (extra bonus points for the silly conjecture), on their behalf about a fellow Republican.  Some of the members may agree with you, some may not – nevertheless, you spoke for them in the capacity of the Chair, which is irresponsible at best.

Personally, I don’t want any apology.  But I do hope that the next time you attack me publicly, you use facts and logic, instead of some insipid, childish, meaningless opinions.

I also suggest you start your own blog and attack people there.  You made the Milford, Hillsborough Country, and NH Republican Party look stupid.
