“Accountability” Has A Shelf-Life In Carroll County

Right To Know TagEd Comeau has his eye on the Country delegation in Carroll County, and its commissioners.  Skip recently explored Ed’s Right To Know suit and the refusal of two Carroll County Commissioners to be seated if they are not protected from Right to Know Lawsuits.

Democrat Denny Miller, and Republican David Babson, are seeking a taxpayer backed financial safety net should they be sued as county commissioners for failing or refusing to provide public documents required under New Hampshire’s 91-A.

So this statement David Babson made back in 2012 about holding elected officials to a higher standard with regards to public information  had a shelf life?

“Over the past couple of weeks I have been asked by several people about the report that cost the taxpayers $18,000 or thereabouts. The feeling because it is taxpayer’s money it ought to be made public. The consensus of the people that have talked to me is that if Robin Reade’s charges are not sustainable then Commissioner Kenney is owed a big apology and if it appears that Commissioner Kenney was wrong, voters and taxpayers ought to know that…. Elected officials are held to a higher standard than the general public,” Babson told commissioners.

So not only are “elected officials” to be held to a higher standard than the general public, elected county commissioners in Carroll County are to be held to a higher standard.  But if, by some unfortunate circumstance, Denny Miller and David Babson find themselves at the ‘business end’ of the higher standard, they expect the pubic to be financially responsible.

Got it.
