Do you think Government telling kids their Rights come from Government is a problem? - Granite Grok

Do you think Government telling kids their Rights come from Government is a problem?

In many countries, that would be true.  But we aren’t most countries (at least, not yet) – it is clear that our radical Founding Fathers determined that our Rights pre-exist the formation of Government (e.g., I didn’t happen to be safe from illegal search and seizure or posses the self-defense rights simply because the Constitution was signed).  Our Constitution, the practical manifestation of the philosophy in the Declaration only enumerates those Rights.

It does NOT grant them.  In fact, the Constitution was written to tell those in Government that THEY DO NOT grant (and therefore, having the ability to rescind) RIGHTS!  So why is yet another Government school claiming exactly that??

School - Government grants Rights

Note the phrasing in two of the points:

Rights are special privileges the government gives you” and “Because the government gives us rights, we have the duty to be good citizens.”

Absolutely WRONG – this sets up the expectation in these kids that they are NOT the Sovereigns that the Founders believed us to be.  Instead, just like the monarchies that the Founders were trying to get away from, who ever wrote this believes that Government is to be in charge and must always be obeyed.  That is wrong – and IS anti-American.  The question is, is that deliberate (a la Bill Ayers) or a case that the curriculum developer doesn’t know the subject matter????

Thus, I am thankful for our Constitution – I only wish those that “lead” us would follow those strictures more fully. Go to the link and read what the Dad said when his daughter brought the above home.
