Back to politics: Schadenfreude as Dem Wendy Davis / Gabby Giffords replaced by pro-life / pro-gun Repubs

Schadenfreude for real – Drudge headline-a-like time (sorta, sideways):

PRO-GUN CANDIDATE HOLDS 341 VOTE LEAD FOR GABBY GIFFORDS’ FORMER SEAT

Pro-life candidate wins seat vacated by Wendy ‘Abortion Barbie’ Davis

Yeah, that’s right – people the total opposite replaced them in their seats.  Texas Democrat State Senator Wendy Davis, who came to fame in filibustering a pro-life bill in pink sneakers (and a catheter) tried and got whomped in running for Texas Governor (being vacated by Rick Perry) – Texas voters decided that her claim to fame was oh so 15 months ago.  Only the pro-baby killing throng decided to try to milk that 15 minutes for all its worth.

Wendy Davis, the Democrat gubernatorial candidate in Texas, lost her state senate seat in addition to the federal one. And to add insult to injury, the seat was claimed by a pro-life Tea Party activist woman (Konni Burton).

Gee, I know of another gubernatorial candidate here in NH that was, in part, done in by Pro-life TEA Party folks.  Can I hear an “AMEN!”?

Davis became famous for an 11-hour filibuster in which she argued a woman’s right to late-term abortions. The filibuster, which earned her the derisive nickname “Abortion Barbie” among conservatives, propelled her status in liberal spheres, so much so that her ascendancy toward the governorship was thought to be inevitable. Yet on Tuesday, she lost to Republican Greg Abbott by more than 20 points.

Kevin Williamson over at National Review says it was even worse:

She didn’t even secure a majority of women’s votes, and she lost white women by a two-to-one margin. Her own Fort Worth state-senate seat was taken over by Konni Burton, a pro-life tea-party activist and Ted Cruz ally.

So for all of the whining that Republicans don’t “represent woman”, well, that didn’t work out all that well now, did it?  And in the Gabby Giffords case (with her attention deficit seeking husband Mark Kelly) in spending millions in trying to cast a nationwide American civilian disarmament net that ended up showing a whole lot a holes and not much to show for those megabucks.  Yes, her former seat was taken by a pro-gunner:

Pro-Second Amendment candidate Martha McSally (R-AZ) holds a 341 vote lead over pro-gun control incumbent Ron Barber (D-AZ-2) for Arizona’s 2nd Congressional District–Gabby Giffords’ former seat–with the remaining provisional ballots in Pima County slated to be counted today.

Sometimes, elections do elicit smiles….like when blowhards lose to the anti-thesis of what made them famous.
