A Proclamation Biosolids Recycling Day May 16, 2000

Whereas, this day shall be recognized as Biosolids Recycling Day in New Hampshire in recognition of the environmentally beneficial practice that has been ongoing for over 25 years; and Whereas, Biosolids Recycling in accordance with state and federal regulation is protective of public health and the environment; and Whereas, Biosolids Recycling has been a cooperative effort by the municipally owned wastewater treatment facilities, farmers, landowners, and the citizens of New Hampshire; and Whereas, Biosolids Recycling is a resource to farmers and landowners that can be used to improve the environmental quality of land, promote wise land stewardship, and ensure the preservation of open green space for Granite State citizens and visitors alike; and Whereas, Biosolids Recycling is consistent with local, state, and national efforts to promote waste reduction and recycling programs; and Whereas, Biosolids is an officially recognized term by the New Hampshire Legislature to mean those sewage sludges derived from a wastewater treatment facility that meet the standards for beneficial use specified by the Department of Environmental Services; Now, therefore, I, Jeanne Shaheen, Governor of the State of New Hampshire, do hereby proclaim May 16, 2000 as Biosolids Recycling Day in the State of New Hampshire. With this I urge all my fellow New Hampshire residents to join me in recognizing the importance of biosolid recycling contributions to the quality of life in our state.

Given at the Executive chamber in Concord, this third day of May, in the year of Our Lord, two thousand, and of the independence of the United States of America, two hundred twenty-four. ‘
