James Madison on transparency

Which means Transparency – something that is in short supply from the Obama Administration.  But as the Groksters have found out personally here in little NH, it is oft not to be found here either.  Obfuscation, delay, intolerance for NH Citizenry – and an attitude of “who are you to ASK ME to justify Govt actions” mixed in with the tincture of “Who really are the Public Masters?” means has meant an unwillingness to be that transparency that Henry so said was so necessary to our Republic.  However, in our RTK (RSA 91-A, Right To Know), there are no teeth for Citizens to use to force our Public Masters to comply with the Law.

It IS time to remove “qualified immunity” –  that judicial practice that in the performance of their duties, “public servants” are to be held blameless except under the most egregious actions – and I have been bringing this up with candidates.  Problem is, as noted above, with the abusive attitude of “Govt business is NONE of your business” with the lack of accountability (e.g., bad consequences) means they can get away with it unless the average citizen has beaucoup bucks for lawyers or beaucoup time to learn to bring the bastards to court pro se (e.g., acting as their own lawyers).  Such removal, I bet, would change attitudes real quick as they could be sued individually and personally for not complying fully and within the time limits of the law.

Again, PERSONALLY – the govt entity that employs them would not pay the fine, pay the lawyers, or serve the time (yes, I am advocating for exactly that) as that simply means that the many (taxpayers) would end up paying the few (the aggrieved ).  Instead, it should cost the govt employees PERSONALLY.  Then they might learn a lesson that they are the servants to the Public.
