At the beginning of this year, I intended to post a reminder on the Trial of the Century every quarter and it looks like I just about made it in time for this one.  Many political junkies are aware of the trial, but for the sake of clarity, I’ll clarify.

The trial of the century is the glacierly slow trial between New Hampshire’s very own “scary conservative with a hidden agenda” Mark Steyn and the First Amendment detonating jackhole Michael E. Mann of Penn State (Yes, the same Penn State where boys fear the locker room) and of the fallacious global warming Hockey Stick fame (stop laughing).

So for this installment, a little update along with an obnoxious, embarrassing pleading from me to you that I’ll get out of the way now.  Please consider helping Mark out by visiting the store at  www.steynonline.com and purchasing one of his excellent books, a mug, shirt or other items including a never expiring gift certificate.  The proceeds go to his trial expenses—expenses that seem never ending as I think we’re in the third year of this “speedy” trial.  It’s for a good cause, a cause Mark must win, not just for himself but for anyone who believes that freedom of speech is freedom of speech for everyone not just the anointed and well connected.

If he does not win and others can decide what speech is allowed, we as a country are doomed.  There will be no way we’ll be able to right the USS Ship of State against the rushing leftist tide that’s pushing us towards economic oblivion and cultural rot.  Dissent is paramount and unfettered political speech is paramount.  And the Trial of the Century is about unfettered free speech; it is about the First Amendment.

The last time I posted on this a commenter didn’t agree and we went back and forth for a bit.  Now, however, others seem to share the position that this trial is about free speech and Mann’s attempt to silence his critics by the use of the state.

From Mark at steynonline.com:

A few weeks ago, you’ll recall, the ACLU, The Washington Post, NBC News, The Los Angeles Times and various other notorious right-wing deniers all filed amici briefs opposed to Michael Mann and his assault on free speech. They did this not because they have any great love for me, but because their antipathy to wackjob foreign blowhards is outweighed by their appreciation of the First Amendment – and an understanding of the damage a Mann victory would inflict on it.

ACLU, The Washington Post, NBC New, The Los Angeles Times all took action in this trial for precisely the same reason that I post these updates.  Because the insecure and petty Mann was not manly and bristled under criticism, lashed out and stomped around like a spoiled child tantruming after his ice cream dropped from his cone onto his pink onesy. He got his wittle feelings hurt and instead of taking it like a man, he took it like a Mann and attempted to crush an individuals right to freedom of speech by using the court as a truncheon of intimidation.  Well, he didn’t expect a counter suit and that is exactly what Mark is doing.

Take a look again at those who now oppose Mann’s case.  Those are not by any means conservative groups.  Who would have thought that would happen?   That’s good news.

Also the climate seems to be cooperating as Steve mentioned and the warm mongering has been taking a hit in quite a few places recently.  The  hockey stick seems to be ever more a fantasy of Michal E. Mann’s playful imagination as are plenty of the models the warm monger’s cite.  These models are… well… as many models appear.  At first glance quite impressive, but upon closer examination appear simply as anorexic clothes hangers bereft of any useful heft.
