Rand Paul at Generation Opportunity / NH: First Executive Order? Revoke the previous 8 years worth

Rand Paul On Presidential Non-RightWell, that would be a good start.  In fact, it shouldn’t even be controversial – this should be a given for pretty much the Republican President next elected in 2016 given how much Obama has pushed the boundaries of Executive Imperialship (putting both Bush II and Nixon to shame).

Roll it back should be heard in a constant din from November 7th onward in the process of making government smaller and Citizens Larger.  You know, the way it used to be (and the way it was supposed to be).

Big Government talks about US Senator Rand Paul coming to NH and who talked with the NH Chapter of Generation Opportunity (Twitter: @GenOppNH) (reformatted, emphasis mine):

Paul’s comments came to the New Hampshire chapter of Generation Opportunity, a national grassroots conservative group with a libertarian appeal with thousands of young liberty-minded activists nationwide engaged through it.  Paul focused much of his remarks on executive overreach by President Barack Obama, saving some of his most interesting points for a question-and-answer session at the end….“I know, it’s crazy,” the young man followed up. “You spoke for a bit on the executive orders tonight. If you were to receive the presidency would you repeal previous executive orders and restrain the power of the presidency?”

“I think the first executive order that I would issue would be to repeal all previous executive orders,” Paul replied to resounding cheers

through the Manchester pub [Murphy’s Taproom  -Skip], named for the beer bearing the namesakes of American revolutionary Sam Adams. “Democracy is messy, but you have to build consensus to pass things. But it’s also in some ways good, because a lot of laws take away your freedom. So it should be hard to pass a law. And it, frankly, when you do it the proper way, is. We’ve done way too many things [the wrong way]: Signing statements, altering legislation by the president, are wrong and unconstitutional and shouldn’t happen. Executive orders shouldn’t either.”

In a brief interview with Breitbart News outside after the speech and question-and-answer session, Paul said he thinks the president’s executive overreaches are massively unpopular nationwide and will have electoral consequences for candidates in races ranging from this year’s Senate races to 2016’s presidential contest.

“I’m very serious that the biggest problem with President Obama is his usurpation of power, destroying the separation of powers and not believing there are any checks and balances and believing that the executive branch can do whatever it wants—and this is exemplified in immigration, Obamacare and more—but really it’s the most seriously destructive thing he’s doing to this country,” Paul said. “While Obamacare’s bad, Dodd-Frank is bad, immigration is bad, the problem is is he’s doing it in an unconstitutional way. You can see how the crowd really understands that. The problem is he’s acting like a legislature.”

I may not agree with all of his stances (re: foreign policy in a lot of ways) but here, Rand Paul is absolutely right.  Poll after poll has shown that the American public have a diminishing view, respect, and trust in Government (especially the Federal one). We’ve had the word “uncertainty” thrown around for the better part of 5 years now as the pattern began to take shape.  Consistency breeds Trust – inconsistency yields fear.  America got to be America as it followed its Constitution – it wasn’t until the Progressives decided to run the Constitution out on a rail that the country started to go off the rails.  While there would be a role for executive orders in the way that a CEO issue order, what Obama has been doing is EXACTLY what Paul said: “destroying the separation of powers and not believing there are any checks and balances and believing that the executive branch can do whatever it wants”.

There is a bunch more over at the post – start now in order to get the jump start on the Presidential Primary Season / NH that is now starting!  I think it also time to try to get someone from Generation Opportunity to come on GrokTALK!.
