The Progressive Compulsion

Even under the best of circumstances the progressive nanny-state compulsion to centrally plan is based on the idea that individuals with money and power cannot be trusted to do right by anyone else.  Nor do they trust a free people, exercising choices with their own dollars, to act as a check on others.

The progressive solution to this problem is to take that money and power and entrust to individuals and agencies of government, who– free from interference from producers and consumers–will decide what is best.

If producers or consumers object to how badly the government manages things, the individuals and agencies of government label them as anti-government, not pro-consumer or pro-producer.  They may demand tribute, intimidate, investigate, unleash a regulatory tornado upon their interests, smear them (their family, friends, associates)  in the press, tax or fine them, send armies of partisan activists either to their doorstep or to engage in lawfare, or the state can just publicly define them as domestic terrorists.

Anyone watching is expected to get the message.

The progressive nanny-state compulsion is to empower individuals who cannot be trusted to do right by anyone else as the maters of a regulatory oligarchy with a force majority, to ensure that they get what they want and can silence or eliminate any legitimate threat to it.

Compare that to what we have now.  Consider where we might be in 20 years if this political evolution continues?  What will you have left for your children or grand children?
