Is NH State Senator David Boutin the equivalent of "doddering" US Senator Pat Roberts? - Granite Grok

Is NH State Senator David Boutin the equivalent of “doddering” US Senator Pat Roberts?

NHGOP-InvertYes, the equivalency / similarities hit just as soon as I read it:

THE NRSC’S WORK PROPPING UP DODDERING NONRESIDENT PAT ROBERTS WORKING OUT AS EXPECTED: In Kansas, Incumbent Pat Roberts Down 5 Points Against “Independent” Candidate. “This all raises a bigger question as to Roberts’ viability. He’s just a horrible campaigner, and doesn’t seem comfortable in his home state. I hope Roberts wins, but someone has to shake him out of his stupor.”

Meanwhile, Roberts primary challenger Milt Wolf comments: “Remember when the GOP establishment said that they, and only they, can win in November? Good times, good times.”

The NRSC is now seen by the grassroots, nationally, as nothing but a “keep the good ole’ boys and girls in the Club” organization.  Making the quality of the Republicans in the US Senate better?  Yeah, for all the talk of “making the GOP more inclusive”, the “in” part only means something if one is already “in” the club.

Same thing here in NH, writ smaller (but no less important).  Smaller scale but the same thing with the NH Senate Republican Majority PAC being the second string stand in for the NRSC.  It threw beaucoup bucks at defeating Jane Cormier (a very steadfast conservative) to keep David “I was too drunk to know” Boutin alive in the primary (and Nancy Stiles as well).  Altogether, $90,000 was spent for the incumbent’s sake – money spent in NOT actually keeping the majority in the State Senate for Republicans.  After all, looking around quickly, I can easily see some Republican Senate candidates that would be greatly appreciative for that help now that the general election campaigning has become (Kathy Rago immediately comes to mind, as she is up against Democrat Hosmer in my district).

And now, just like the NRSC at the national level for the Roberts race, there is great angst at the NH level for this Senate race.  Gosh, durn, I can’t just seem to figure out why – you?  They chose an old white drunk guy that hardly paid attention to the NH GOP Platform over the type of candidate we keep hearing that the GOP wants – younger, upbeat, sure of principles, and willing to bring that message to untapped groups of voters.  The write in Democrat opposition is a much younger, much brighter, more articulate candidate than Boutin – and is another lady.  Gosh, who do you think will win this match up?

Alas, all that money is gone – POOF!  Money that is no longer available to, you know, actually keep a majority?  To help the “poorer” candidates?  Sure, Boutin (and Roberts) got through the primary, but will the NH “Republicans” win that NH Senate race, especially as the optics from the grassroots’ side of things is “we protect our own class of Republicans”? That this is “we get to play – the rest of you go screw” (as Howie Carr might put it).   And they wonder why 31 million Republicans didn’t come out in vote in the LAST election nationally.  Will the NH GOP wonder, too, when their base doesn’t show up again even as they plead “NOW we must be united”?

So, the NH GOP and the present “Masters of the Universe” Republican State Senators own this race – lock, stock, barrel….and grave.  How soon will it be that David Boutin will be back in his seat at the Asian Bar, deep in his cups?  Will these “leaders” be on the stools beside them, moaning about their choice, their action, and

In previous years, I have posted “November is coming!”; haven’t done that this year, have I?
