Moms Demand Action – making women more helpless, nationwide (the Panera Bread edition)

From a post I did back in 2010:

“How a politician stands on the Second Amendment tells you how he or she views you as an individual… as a trustworthy and productive citizen, or as part of an unruly crowd that needs to be lorded over, controlled, supervised, and taken care of.”

– Suzanna Gratia-Hupp (survivor of the Luby’s cafeteria massacre)

More on Dr. Gratia-Hupp later.  Moms Demand Action, the astroturf group funded by former NYC Mayor Michael “I will tell you how to live better by MY rules” Bloomberg’s billions are all crowing about that Panera Bread has now been bullied by their Progressive actions.  Not content to let law abiding folks live their own lives peacefully, and knowing that getting the disarmament of civilians legislation will not happen, MAD (and they certainly seem to be just that), they are bullying private companies using Alinsky’s Rule #1Power is not only what you have, but what the enemy thinks you have.”  They can’t even PAY to have reasonable turnouts to their events but have touted “success” as they “persuaded” Target, Chili’s, and Starbucks to ask their patrons to leave their guns at home.  Low bar success – they have only asked politely and not outright bans (“don’t come in”) with only Jack in the Box actually prohibiting firearms (and then had the predictable results of the now “gun free zone”).

Now Panera Bread has done the same – their CEO announced on MSNBC that he was asking his customers to

leave their guns at home.  Funny thing, though – for all of the sturm and drang put out by MAD over this, it seems like the words have disappeared into the ether.  “Panera Warmth” or not, I went over to their website, scoured it, and not even on their press page is there a single word codifying this new policy.  Not one single word.  I haven’t stopped by the closest store just yet, but I’m willing to bet that there is nothing in the window talking about this either.

So, like Everytown before it, and the Brady Center before that, what Moms Demand Action may be hearing is not what the rest of us Second Amendment celebrators hear – they hear “leave them at home” and we hear crickets.  Sure, some of the Open Carry folks have acted like complete boors – but even in Target, I have not been asked to leave.

Ow, Dr. Gratia-Hupp?  She was forced to leave her firearm in her car when ate at Luby’s in 1991.  From Townhall:

In 1991 Texas residents were banned by law from bringing firearms into restaurants. That same year, a mad man with an intent to kill as many people as possible, crashed his truck into a Lubys Cafeteria in Killeen. The man got out of his vehicle and shot 50 people, killing 23 of them. One of the survivors, Dr. Susan Gratia-Hupp, had left her gun in the parking lot and watched as her parents were executed in front of her. She was following the rules and obeying the law by leaving her gun in the car, right where the killer knew it would be. As Hupp describes in her own words, it was like shooting fish in a barrel. Everyone was defenseless.
