Part 1 - NH State Senator Dave Boutin: "They should have shut him off 3 hours ago!" - Granite Grok

Part 1 – NH State Senator Dave Boutin: “They should have shut him off 3 hours ago!”

Part 1.  Judgment time.  The question is, was this good judgment on the part by one of the most powerful elected officials in NH – haranguing other people in a bar simply because he didn’t have the judgment to shut himself off?  In fact, you can hear someone in the video saying exactly that – in wondering if he was a State Rep (not knowing he was a NH State Senator): “They should have shut him off three hours ago!”

“I wish you’d shown me the way to go home
I’m drunk and I oughta to go to bed
I started having drinks about three hours ago
And they went right to my head…”

Now, please note that I am not passing judgment – at least not at this time.  I don’t drink (other than a single sip of champagne at a wedding or New Years’ party merely to be polite) and there is no alcohol in my house (‘cept maybe a couple of small dusty bottles of cooking sherry in a back kitchen cabinet).  Why?  I am the son of an Irish drunk; I learned  from my Father’s example and I swore that I would not turn out the same.  So, I have no idea what posses folks to drink, to consume more alcohol than they should, or go to bars to drink more than they should – and make what seems to be – fools of themselves (or worse).

To the point, in this case with Dave Boutin I’m told, that many people got up and left the bar.  I was also told that a good thing happened – someone else had the good sense to finally grab him and drive him home, not letting NH State Senator Dave Boutin drive home in what can only be kindly called a rather inebriated state of being.  The kind that, as a child, usually meant bad things are coming next.  I am glad to say that I did not hear of such things afterwards.

I understand, however, that there may be some police reports, public records, that are not being released as folks have asked for them.  We here at the ‘Grok have done RSA 91A (Right TO Know) requests before – we may do a bunch later on as this seems that this is not an isolated incident.  Again, as a voter, does this display good judgment, good self-discipline and self-responsibility?

Not my call.  But it is the call of the voters in his District – District 16.  What matters is not my judgment, nor even Dave Boutin’s judgment to have too many and not stop , but the voters.  Does his judgment, shown in this video, fulfill your judgment of how a NH State Senator should comport themselves?

Sidenote:  The videos (yes, there are more coming, and yes, copies have been pushed around the ‘Net) are what they are.  The only thing that has been done to them is:

  • Added the GraniteGrok beginning and end
  • Brightened them up as much as I could  for clarity (rather dark places, I guess, bars are)
