Data Point – Education Spending vs Student Results

Educational-spending

Education Spending vs Student Results – as costs skyrocket but results remain flat, it is clear that “educational productivity” is increasingly growing worse rather then better.

One question that should always be asked of your School Boards “What is your ratio of indirect vs direct labor?”  In other words, how many people’s jobs are exclusively dedicated to teaching, and how many are just “overhead”?

They hate this question.  Also, don’t let them obfuscate with just using head counts – ask for that AND the total cost (salary, benefits, and future benefits) of those two groups.  Do not let them distract with the answer of “well, some folks do both” – then make sure the question is posed in terms of EXCLUSIVE – this eliminates the case of overhead may teach once in a while.
