Stupid reasoning from Senator Jay Rockefeller (D) on NOT sending illegal alien kids home

US Border - free stuff

Senator Jay Rockefeller (D., W.Va.) expressed his opposition to returning the unaccompanied children at the border back to their home countries, theorizing that the United States could benefit from any highly skilled workers among them, now or in the future.  “I’m not for throwing people out,” Rockefeller tells National Review Online. “I’ve got a huge interest in science, engineering and math, etc., and those are the folks who are trained in other countries and they come here and we cut their funding. We’ve all benefited from immigrants.”

Does he think that there are highly skilled workers among the children currently at the border? “I don’t know yet, but, you know, children can become anything they want,” Rockefeller says.”

(H/T: The Corner)   Or, the opposite can happen:

  • Maricopa County, Ariz.: 22 percent of felons are illegal aliens;
  • Lake County, Ill.: 19 percent of jail inmates are illegal aliens;
  • Collier County, Fla.: 20 to 22 percent of jail inmates and arrestees are illegal aliens;
  • Weld County, Colo.: 12.8 to 15.2 percent of those jailed are illegal aliens.

DHS states that it has identified 221,000 non-citizens in the nation’s jails. This equals 11 to 15 percent of the jail population. Non-citizens comprise only 8.6 percent of the nation’s total adult population.

Rockefeller has no clue and just  throws that line out because he has nothing intelligent to say but can’t stand being outgunned. How about this – “reform” our “broken” ( because they aren’t enforced) immigration laws to go back to where someone had to be a sponsor and sign an affidavit that promised that THEY (and not the Government) would shoulder any financial burden created by an legal  immigrant.  And if what you want is high skilled, then make the law say high skilled and keep low skilled workers out.

Immigration should be for our nation’s benefit and not just because the US Chamber of Commerce wants low skilled / low pay workers.  We have 40% of our potential workforce already out of work – just because we are talking immigration doesn’t mean you can ignore the real law of Supply and Demand if you import more workers in a job constrained marketplace.  Those of us that want our laws enforced and the borders secure are now hearing the slurs of Nativist and Xenophobic once again.  ‘Bout time we start calling the other side what they really are:

American haters
