A clear case of dumbing down of the curriculum for the ideological purposes of Common Core in a high school? A parent writes to Ann Marie (emphasis mine):

I am a resident of Rindge [NH  -Skip] and was in attendance when you spoke to the JRF Republican Committee about Common Core. . I have been following you regarding Common Core and have some real concerns about what is and is not being taught in our school system. I have a rising senior in high school and she took her first course in economics. There was no text book used, they watched movies such as Sicko by Micheal Moore, Food, Inc and were given hand outs. One hand out was a transcript from Prof. Barry Schwartz’s TedTalk titled: The Paradox of Choice, which attempts to define opportunity cost. Look it up on youtube and keep in mind these are 16 & 17 year olds READING a transcript that is being authored by a psychology professor ( this is a intro economics course) to his colleagues and college students who have already been given a foundation in economics. The high school students don’t hear the nervous laughter from the audience. They are reading as if it were a text book. Schwartz talks about how we have too much choice, which causes depression and anxiety and that we just have to lower our expectations. It talks about the redistribution of wealth as well. I am disgusted. This is nothing but an indoctrination of an ideology. My older daughter took this three years ago and she learned about  supply and demand, how the stock market works and how the economy works, the  federal budget, etc. Disgusted! Common Core? What can I do?

No text book?  No way for a parent to check the curriculum, is there? After all, there is a reason why the phrase “We have your children” should strike fear into parents’ hearts – and votes.  And ask yourself, why does the Left want younger and younger children to be in school all day long – instead of with a parent?
