Is Modern Immigration Policy the Death Knell For Small Government?

immigration reformOne of our upcoming guests this week is Ann Cocoran from the Refugee Resettlement Watch blog.  There are a number of excellent resources at the site, including the EAGLE Forum report on how mass legal immigration is certain doom for a Conservative Republican party.  (Phyllis Schlafly founded Eagle Forum, by the way.)

Certain doom?  Yes, and it’s actually just a very simple calculus.

The rest of the world is more liberal than the average American and a super majority of immigrants, legal or otherwise, favor bigger government.   If permitted they will vote for ever bigger government, and those who support it.

The more immigrants we let in the faster the effect, the more leftward our nation tilts, the bigger the government gets, the less emphasis there will be on state sovereignty, personal responsibility and individual rights–the things that Conservatives are trying to defend.

It is a numbers game that we cannot win, however they arrive.  Be it work visas,  worker programs, paths to citizenship, as refugees, or any form of amnesty.   Immigrants overwhelmingly favor bigger government.  Given the opportunity they will be inclined to use any means at their disposal to expand it further.

I’ll let you look at the data and see what you think.

Here is  a graphic and then a two page primer, for those who are not inclined to read the complete 41 page report yet, like me (no time).  For those who are ready, follow this link.
