Katy Perry – Trapping Women In A Life Of Poverty?

K PerryKaty Perry is ready to be a mom.  Who gives a damn, you say, fair enough.   But I counter with this.  She says (publicly) that she wants to be a mom but “she doesn’t need a dude, it’s the 21st century.”

Her point is that if she wants a baby she can have one, whether there is a father present in that child’s life or not.

Katy Perry is talented, successful, and filthy rich. Good for her.  She worked hard, created something people would pay for, and made millions.  But many of her fans, or folks who might be inclined to follow her lead when she makes an off the cuff comment like that, are not.  A majority of those who choose to follow her 21st century example (or find themselves there for other reasons) will be lucky to live as well as the average impoverished 20th century single mom; many of them dependent on the state to get by, often trapped in a series of bad relationships with less than nice guys, as they “look for companionship” or a path out of the lower income hell they find themselves trapped in.

There may be bad schools, lousy housing, no chance at college or a decent job for themselves or their offspring, drugs, addiction, child abuse, domestic violence,  poverty, maybe an early death, most of which can be avoided by ladies who are married to the father of their children.

They are not millionaires.  If they want to have children, they need the father of their child, ideally, married and committed to work together to raise their family.  The best cure we know of for keeping women and children out of poverty is marriage to the father of the child.

There needs to be a dude.

With  just a little encouragement, perhaps some guidance from a role model or two, those young ladies might be more cautious, and a bit more thoughtful about the responsibility and ramifications of thinking they don’t need a dude either.

No, Perry is not obligated to set a good example, but it would be refreshing.
