Hassanistas Back Off Tax Grab

NH Democrats fleece taxpayers againThe Union leader is reporting the Democrats abrupt 180-degee-Kabuki-Dance-Walk-Back of the Hassan Administrations Tax grab.   Long story short–the Hassanistas have “pulled their request off the table,” and Democrats are trying to spin it.

Allow me to cut through the Democrat BS for you.

Hassanista Bureaucrats claimed the existing rules for ground leases have expired.  They are just (innocently?) “going to the legislature” with their proposal to “clarify” the rules for taxing ground leases, you know, because they expired.  That is what they are supposed to do,  mmmm-Kay?   And they say the rules were poorly constructed.

Poorly as in, they didn’t tax as many people or tax them as often as Governor Hassan and the Democrats would have liked?

To the best of my knowledge the DRA has been enforcing the rules they had all along.  I could not find any legislative requests or bills offered before the legislature in past years to address any “poorly constructed” taxes.  We’ve got bills that silence free speech, massage away second amendment rights, and proposals to clarify or codify other taxes but nothing about that one–and with it due to expire at the end of the last legislative session?

Democrats and Bureaucrats and the Hassan administration just let that opportunity slip right by, did they?

Having missed the opportunity to address it during the legislative session, when the media and activists would probably be paying more attention, the Hassanistas submit a proposal that just so happens to expand the reach of the tax.  Their new rules would collect more taxes, more often than before.

That’s not a tax grab?

The Democrats say it is not.  They say the Republicans are Desperate.  Really?  If it is not a tax grab, and you really are just asking to re-certify the rules, why pull the request off the table?  Hmmmm?   Why walk it back?

Because it was a backdoor, executive branch, administrative end around to increase taxes without the usual attention (and possible blow-back)  in an election year.

The Democrats got caught trying to do it, so now they are twirling and dancing and spinning away their latest stealth tax.

Say hello to blow-back.
