Scott Brown On The Second Amendment?

“What happened in Newtown where those children were subject to that level of violence is beyond my comprehension…As a state legislator in Massachusetts, I supported an assault weapons ban thinking other states would follow suit. But unfortunately, they have not, and innocent people are being killed. As a result, I support a federal assault weapons ban, perhaps like the legislation we have in Massachusetts.” —Scott Brown in December 2012 in the wake of the Newtown Massacre

Scott-Brown-Kool-Aid3Next week, Scott Brown will make an appearance before Gun Owners of New Hampshire. Meanwhile, he has been trucking around the Granite state visiting Gun stores and glad-handing patrons.  Clearly, his campaign gets that he cannot win in New Hampshire without the gun voters.

What I find most troubling is that Scott Brown takes great pains to not be on record. The usual request that comes from his campaign is that he is willing to come and talk to groups, provided there are no cameras or press on hand. What is even more troubling is that leaders within  some gun groups are complying with this proviso.

Project Votesmart’s website reports, ”

Scott Brown refused to tell citizens where he stands on any of the issues addressed in the 2012 Political Courage Test, despite repeated requests from Vote Smart, national media, and prominent political leaders.”

Jay Simkin told Politico on December 20 in Nashua, “His coming here is calculated disrespect, just as if he went to Saudi Arabia with pork chops in his suitcase… “If he wants gun control, he should stay in Massachusetts. Fact is, Scott Brown as a State Senator voted for the so-called Massachusetts Assault weapons ban that is now law in the Bay state.”

In 2012 when Brown was running against Elizabeth “Lie-Awatha” Warren, He was endorsed by Michael Bloomberg, the most anti-gun icon in public life.

“The biggest reason the mayor is supporting Senator Brown is the senator’s help on one of our biggest gun issues: opposing concealed-carry reciprocity that would let people with gun permits from rural states like Arkansas and Kentucky carry hidden handguns in New York City,”

said Bloomberg spokesman Stu Loeser to the NY Times about the August shin-dig.

As the leader of one of the Granite States Largest Fish and Game Clubs in this state, We have traditionally accepted requests from those running for political office to come and address our general membership, be it Executive Council, State Rep, U.S. House, Governor or U.S. Senate. As a 501-C:3 we do not endorse or support candidates. We do not schedule special meetings for  such appearances and if the press or media shows up, we do not lock them out. It is our view that candidate…who came to us in the first place, accepts our organization just as we are or they can simply choose not to come. That is most likely why he hasn’t come with hat in hand to our sporting club.

So it is time to simply recap. Scott Brown visits gun shops, often unannounced. He does this to avoid Media and sound byte attention. Why? How come we have not heard from anybody who has talked to Scott Brown at one of these Gun Shops? How come we see this so infrequently reported in the media? What does he expect to gain with these visits?  Why does he insist on no media or press when he interfaces with gun groups?

Scott Brown is a known quantity…an anti-second amendment known quantity. And it cannot be said that this is my opinion alone as his public record speaks explicitly to that. He can interface with all the second amendment people he wants in the Granite State but that does not change who he is, where he has been and what he has done. Perhaps he will be able to con some, but the lack of transparency on his second amendment position merely makes him an enigma in disclosing what has or has not changed. I suspect the only thing that has really changed here is that he is running in a state where the Second Amendment voters have a far more substantial role in elections than the Bay State.

A vote for Scott Brown is a vote for Gun Control. He might tell people off camera and away from the press that he supports their second amendment rights, only to later stab us in the back. The lack of media merely gives him the ability to call us all liars.
