Steve has been all over the Federal Government’s Ambassador to NH, Jeanne Shaheen’s utterances that global warming was going to kill off NH’s ski industry (here, here, and here). And this year was one of the best EVAH for the industry as a whole. So once again, Jeanne is wrong. Really wrong. And she was the 60th vote that is helping to actually shorten (and in some cases, kill off) the ski industry to which she professes love (emphasis mine, reformatted):
MANCHESTER — Owners of some small New Hampshire businesses said at a forum Thursday that paperwork and expense are threatening the economic platforms on which their companies are built — to the point that the Affordable Care Act could trump nature. Greg Goddard, general manager of Gunstock Ski Resort, said requirements that health insurance be offered to employees who are on a company payroll for 120 consecutive days or longer could mean opening the slopes later and shutting them down earlier.
Ah yes, a woman-made disaster in this case. And to think, Jeanne Shaheen helped to do this to her own State! Would this be a good time to ask to repeal the 17th Amendment and go back to having our Senators selected / elected by state legislators so as to actually protect the State’s interest – ’cause this sure isn’t by Jeanne’s own words! Hey Harrell (spokesyakker for her campaign)- how ya gonna mouthpiece this one?
“We may not be able to open beyond 120 days; it may be Christmas to the middle of March … the summer season may be the fourth of July until Labor Day,” Goddard said at a roundtable discussion with Sen. Kelly Ayotte, R-N.H. “If I didn’t have this mandate to worry about, this would not be on the table.”…Goddard said some decisions his company has made in recent years might have been quite different if the impact felt in the first months of Obamacare had been known. “Three years ago we added a summer adventure park,” he said. “Frankly if I knew then what the Affordable Care Act was all about, I may not have built it.”
So Jeanne, are you going to do what Obama wants you to do now and run full blast on the merits of ObamaShaheenCare? After all (if you read the other biz owners and managers in the piece), if it is just that jiffy, you should win in a landslide, right? Never mind that Peoples’ Pledge you’re whining about – just run on the LightBringer’s gift of People Healthcare!
