NHGOP: “Principles Win Elections” –
Oh, The Irony, The Hypocrisy!

NHGOP-Brown-Merger
Let me present (above) the NHGOP banner, Brown Merger Edition.

With their constant promotion of all things Brown (and I don’t mean UPS) since last fall (come to the event – he gave us money, you know), and the obvious embrace of Brown as “the candidate with the Money to win”, the Grassroots could be forgiven for thinking that a full-blown merger of the Brown campaign and the NHGOP had occurred.

Then, two emails popped into my inbox this week, creating a juxtaposition so hilarious that it would take a complete lack of self-awareness on the part of NHGOP leadership to miss the irony! One mail from NHGOP HQ, TedCruzBrownRunsexhorting members to attend rallies with Ted Cruz, and the other, with a matching NHGOP blue background, from the Brown campaign. They went together SOOOO naturally!!

A few snippets from Brown’s letter – emphasis mine:

BrownRuns After spending the last month visiting with the people of New Hampshire in their living rooms and at their workplaces hearing their concerns……. I will officially kick off my campaign for the United States Senate this Thursday, April 10, at the Portsmouth Harborside Hotel…….

As I’ve traveled across the state and added miles on my truck, I’ve heard the same concerns at every stop……. Together, we can do all this, but it starts by changing leadership in Washington….

Let’s translate a little, shall we?
“Miles on the truck” = TEA Party wannabee.
“Same concerns at every stop” = Is he conservative enough for us?
“Changing the leadership in Washington” = Replacing people like Boehner, McConnell, and Brown with REAL conservatives!

Now a few snippets from Horn’s letter to the grassroots (emphasis mine):

TedCruz We invite you to join Senator Ted Cruz and the New Hampshire Republican State Committee this Saturday for an exciting Day of Action in New Hampshire!

Senator Cruz will headline two separate rallies in Nashua and Manchester that are free and open to interested Republicans, where he will discuss the most important ways we can win elections by standing for principle and standing up to make DC listen.

Translation time:
“Join Senator Ted Cruz” = All Brown, all the time, isn’t winning us any friends.
“Standing for principle” = Really? Just found that Party Platform, did you?

Look. Scott Brown, with a voting record somewhere to the left of the ladies from Maine, and the NHGOP Senate with it’s ‘gift’ of BradleyCare Medicaid expansion, are examples of senior party representatives who would rather be liked than take tough decisions, and thus have neither the love of the Base, not a record of tough decisions to show for it.

Compare and contrast Ted Cruz, who represents Texas, Liberty, and the ‘general welfare’ (small ‘W’) in that order, and with his principled stands made enemies amongst the same elites that Brown cherishes, while keeping the love of the voting base back home. Truly an ambassador of Texas to Washington. Oh, and dare I remind the readers – Cruz won his first Senate election in an Obama victory year!

Thus, I find it supremely ironic and hypocritical that the State GOP, which appears to have thrown in its lot with Scott Brown, should now decide that it needs to talk about PRINCIPLES in order to fire up the base!

What the party SHOULD be doing is sponsoring its own debates and encouraging the “most conservative candidate who can win” to rise to the top in the primary – THAT would be a display of principles!
