Lilly Ledbetter Lied - Granite Grok

Lilly Ledbetter Lied

Much like the narrative used before, during, and after passage of the bill that bears her name, Lilly Ledbetter Lied.

Ms. Ledbetter has since repeatedly claimed that she only learned she was paid less than her male co-workers at the end of her career,4 and then belatedly filed an EEOC complaint. In her testimony before the United States Senate, Ledbetter stated that she “only learned about the discrepancy in [her] pay after nineteen years, and that was with someone leaving me an anonymous note.”5 She later made similar claims in speeches at the Democratic National Conventions in 20086 and 2012″

But Ledbetter knew her pay was out of line as early as 1992…

Ms. Ledbetter worked for the company for nineteen years, from 1979 to 1998.9 She learned of the pay disparity by 1992, as excerpts from her deposition, filed in the Supreme Court as part of the Joint Appendix, make clear. In response to the question: “So you knew in 1992 that you were being paid less than your peers?” she answered simply “yes, sir.”10 But she only filed a legal complaint over it in July 1998, shortly before her retirement in November 1998.11

Under oath, and in her own deposition, she stated for the record that she was aware of the disparity six years before she filed her complaint, and sought to correct the disparity with her employer as late as 1995, three years before she finally filed a complaint with the government.

Years later, Ledbetter would become the popular girl at all the progressive functions because she knew her “people” when she saw them.  Democrats loved her story, even though it was a lie.

Ledbetter lied to Democrats.  She lied in her testimony before the US Senate.  She lies to anyone who will listen because once you start lying, even though your sworn deposition contradicts your lies, the accolades and acclaim are too much to turn back from.

Her reward for lying was to have a bill named after her that was so “effective” at resolving the issue its proponents claimed to have addressed, that Democrats are still “fixing it” five years later.
