Income Equality….? I Have Some Ideas.

I think income equality starts with the people in government, most of whom make way too much money and have far too many incentives to milk the taxpayers and the system dry without fear of repercussion.  People should not be getting rich from elected office, period.

The answer (maybe) is to ensure the job of an elected or appointed official has few or no fiscal incentives that are not somehow tied to the effects their policies have on those they claim to represent.

So here are a few wild and outlandish suggestions to begin the process of achieving Income equality with the d-bags in DC.

No one in congress should be paid more than the national average annual income of the private sector that pays their salaries.   (A similar methodology should be worked up for the other branches of government.)

No pay or benefits for life for elected or appointed officials after they leave office regardless of the job or years served.

No additional money for taxpayer-funded retirement.   (Invest a portion of your salary for your own retirement like the rest of us.)

Office expenses will be audited with extreme prejudice.

All campaign donations for elected office shall be taxed as income received by the candidate at the top current corporate tax rate.  Better yet, all elected officials will also pay an income tax on their salaries equal to the current highest tax rate in the nation without the benefit of deductions while in elected office.

I’m not interested in logistics at the moment, just having some fun.  Obviously, there are hurdles to some of this, like who would calculate the average incomes–it could not be the federal government.

Feel free to extrapolate on my income equality bucket list for government in comments.  There are probably a load of better ideas to make fun of these hypocrites.

A thorough ‘returning of money and power to the states’ would go a long way to dealing with the DC millionaire factory and the lobbyist bottom feeder problem.   Giving them more of anything, however, is not the solution.  Less, is most certainly more in this case.
