Everytown USA: Bloomberg’s Latest Sham

“I do think there are certain times we should infringe on your freedom.” —NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg

Bloomberg-Honors-Boston-BomberWhat do you call a 5-foot-eight manicured, billionaire with an ego as big as Montana and an agenda that blatantly ignores the U.S. Constitution? Michael Bloomberg.

A few days ago, Bloomberg retooled his anti-gun efforts, huffing and puffing how he is going to take on the National Rifle Association. Bringing his disgraced, No More Names Tour, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, and Moms Demand Action under one umbrella, with a cash influx of $50 million dollars. Nice.

Bloomberg claimed on the talk show circuit that this measure is aimed at getting and keeping guns out of the hands of children, criminals and the mentally ill. Yet, we’ve seen example after example where Bloomberg was behind model legislation to create Universal Background checks, Gun registration, the so-called, “Assault Weapons” ban and other such measures, not only in this state, but other states.

Reliably, the liberal main-stream media came out to pat Bloomberg on the back for dumping his $50 million into this effort, praising and lauding efforts. Interestingly enough when David and Charles Koch spend their money on political issues du jour, the lame stream media lines up to vilify and lambaste them. The feast of commentary would be replete without a diet of hypocrisy.

But at the end of the day, the progressive anti-gun establishment cannot win the factual debate. Because the facts get in the way of their efforts, they try to define the terminology of the debate. They illegitimately seize the moral high ground. They lie and obfuscate the truth. And as long as we remain vigilant, wise and discerning, we can continue to deny them ground.

Everytown-for-Gun-SafetyFact is, the anti-second amendment groups have always outspent the pro-gun groups at a rate of seven to one, yet we have nearly always prevailed.  Another undeniable fact is that crime has rapidly plummeted in the face of substantial increases in personal gun ownership.  One of the largest segments of gun purchasers today are women.

Bloomberg claims he is not seeking to take guns away from citizens, but to keep guns out of the hands of children, criminals and the mentally ill. The problem with his assertion is that in the wake of his efforts we have seen nothing but fraud, deceit and efforts to enact draconian gun laws that would ultimately deny law-abiding citizens the right to keep and bear arms, let alone pave the way to create gun registration.  History reliably predicts that where gun registration becomes law, at some point, confiscation will follow.

The anti-gun lobby is not going away. But the pro-gun constituency is rapidly growing and crossing all political lines. Bloomberg spending this money is little more than a very public rich guys’ temper tantrum.
