Data Points – an amalgam

Been real busy so playing catch up.  Here’s a few unconnected, disjoint factoids:

Enough people riding in the wagon for you, Zandra Rice-Hawkins, Jeanne Shaheen, and President Obama?

  • The average price for a kilowatthour (KWH) of electricity hit a March record of 13.5 cents, according data released yesterday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That was up about 5.5 percent from 12.8 cents per KWH in March 2013. The relative price of electricity in the United States tends to rise in spring, peak in summer, and decline in fall. Last year, after the price of a KWH averaged 12.8 cents in March, it rose to an all-time high of 13.7 cents in June, July, August and September.  If the prevailing trend holds, the average price of a KWH would hit a new record this summer.

price for KWH hits recordI guess Obama didn’t just mean he’d bankrupt the coal burning generating plants…

  • “Ten Thousand Commandments.” Washington set a new record in 2013 by issuing final rules consuming 26,417 pages in the Federal Register…In 2013 the Federal Register contained 3,659 “final” rules, which means they now must be obeyed, and 2,594 proposed rules on their way to becoming orders from political headquarters…The Federal Register finished 2013 at 79,311 pages, the fourth highest total in history. That didn’t match President Obama’s 2010 all-time record of 81,405 pages. But Mr. Obama can console himself by noting that of the five highest Federal Register page counts, four have occurred on his watch….Mr. Crews estimates that the overall cost of regulatory compliance and its economic impact is about $1.9 trillion annually.

Taking away your Liberty is not just done at the point of a gun – can we PLEASE take away the pens and keyboards from those that “only have good intentions”??

  • The whole reason for the Democrats dictating that we must obey Obamacare was “for the uninsured”.  Now having taken over 1/6 of our entire economy to insure the 5-10% of the population, how many previously uninsured people did Obamacare actually get covered?  The official percentage of those 6.4 million enrollees who previously lacked coverage — a crucial number in measuring the law’s success — is unknown.

I guess they wanted that number “unknown” to be a feature rather than a bug….

  • Antarctic sea ice demolishing old records; sea ice continues to grow at an alarming rate, says reader Chris Beal.  It’s now 1,636,000 sq km above average, and continues to set new all-time daily records.

Gee, that wasn’t supposed to happen with climate change…..

  • Legislators in Illinois are willing to spent $100M of other peoples’ money (er, the taxpayers) to pay for Obama’s Prez Library.  This in a state where the unemployment rate is among the nation’s highest (along with property and income and sales taxes) and near the top in unfunded public liabilities.

This is what is known as Government priority setting!  What’s a mere $100M when your leadership in matters of politics has you in the tens of billions in the hole?

What a flush….

I see a bunch of things listed as factors for this….but what was not listed was our anemic economy.
