The Charlatanry About Gun Laws Continues

“A charlatan makes obscure what is clear; a thinker makes clear what is obscure.” —Hugh Kingsmill (British writer and critic. 1889-1949)

WMURToday, the headlines read,

USA Today: “Ga. governor signs ‘guns everywhere’ into law”

NBC News: “What Georgia’s ‘Extreme’ New Gun Law Allows”

MSNBC: “Georgia governor signs sweeping gun bill into law”

And finally, our own Granite State’s WMUR is reporting on this story with a flair of excited gibberish, clearly demonstrating their editorial bias when they report, “Guns Everywhere” was signed into law in Georgia.  “Guns everywhere” is a pejorative characterization coined by the anti-second Amendment contingent opposing this measure.

So why this is so amusing?  Simple. If one looks at our own Granite State gun laws, one will observe that with only minor nuances, Georgia Governor Nathan Deal signed into law, legislation that brought Georgia more in line with what New Hampshire has had for decades upon decades.  The only place a person cannot carry a firearm in the Granite State is in a court area. As for schools, there is no specific legislation banning persons from carrying guns on school property (schools have zero tolerance policies for students and faculty) but the law here is not clear and is a point of disagreement within the legal community about parents who pick up and drop off their kids while carrying concealed.

Many other states have laws similar to New Hampshire, one being Pennsylvania. So the question is how do they miss the comparisons and the contrasts? Its only such news because of the anti-gun white noise infused into the public arena. When reading the various publications and rants on this be sure to put this into some context of what already exists in some states long before Governor Deal signed this legislation. The fact is this is not sweeping legislation. Governor Deal simply repointed the Georgia Gun laws that recognize the citizens fundamental right to keep and bear arms in defense of one’s self, family and community.  There will be no streets running red with blood…there will be no uptick in violence (notice I didn’t say ‘gun’ violence?).

This is Red Herring Politics on the part of the anti-gun crowd…the Hoplophobes and gun grabbers. WMUR in their reporting are mere willing dupes. They do not take the time to look comparatively at Gun laws elsewhere. Had they done so, they would see the story really is much ado about nothing.

Not to minimize this because Governor Deal clearly did the right thing. But for the lame stream media to present this as “sweeping” or, “unprecedented” or a, “broad gun rights expansion,” is quackery….charlatanism at its best. The media leaves readers and viewers with the impression that this legislation is unique and does not exist elsewhere….thus, making obscure what is clear.
