You don’t earn $15 / hour by doing this

A new development in the Fast Food Strike movement (to have fast food workers get a $15/hour starting wage – wrote about it here and here) being pushed by the SEIU: “wage theft”.  Simply put, companies like McDonalds are ‘stealing workers wages’ by doing what ALL companies do and the Unions are now suing them for doing so.  To remind you:

Labor groups have been pushing McDonald’s to pay their workers $15 per hour and give them the right to unionize. There have also been lawsuits filed in three states where organizers claim McDonald’s has been stealing worker wages….The protests by labor groups started in 2012 and have captured a lot of media attention, where protestors formed picket lines outside of McDonald’s and even marched inside many of the restaurants to let the workers know that they are looking out for them.

One reason for the lawsuits?

The lawsuits were filed in California, Michigan, and New York. In Michigan, workers claim they were forced to wait before clocking in for their shifts so that McDonald’s could better control labor costs.

Pretty much, hourly people are supposed to clock in when they are supposed to clock in – not before, not after.  Do so, early or late and without prior approval, will get you a ding from someone further up the chain.  Labor laws are fairly strict and if you’re “grabbing minutes”, that extra time is going to get a response especially for those in charge of “hitting the number” for cost containment.

These are nothing more than PR stunts.

Again, just like with the college kids who believe they are entitled to their work hours regardless of Govt impacts on their employer, the unionistas believe that the purpose of companies are to support their employees.  Shocked to have them hear this, but that is 180 degrees from what is the real purpose of companies: to make profits for the owners.  Simple.  Easy.  But not what the redistributionists want to accept; they want companies to be mere extensions of government social work programs as in “you must provide for me”.

But The Corner had the biggest reason why these folks don’t deserve that compensation:

The protest was planned for 11:30 am, but protestors did not show up on time. Around 11:45, reporters found protestors eating a late-morning meal and drinking coffee at a Wendy’s restaurant next door to McDonald’s.

If you want to succeed, ya gotta show up on time and which also gives a bit of a lie to the whole “they were forced to wait before clocking in” schtick.  And they keep forgetting the Hamburger Robot:

Robot Hamburger makerIt demands nothing – not even $2.00 / hour (which was my starting hourly wage way back when) and never wants to yak around the office water cooler.
