Why is non-college-attending NH College Republican Federation Chairman Jake Wagner still on NH GOP E-Board? - Granite Grok

Why is non-college-attending NH College Republican Federation Chairman Jake Wagner still on NH GOP E-Board?

UNH College Republicans call on self-proclaimed “Radical RINO” NH College Republican Federation Chairman Jake Wagner to resign for violating Federation Constitution regarding college enrollment.

Jake Wagner with AxelrodCaveat – I’ve met Jake Wagner (there on the left with Obama’s David Axelrod on right).  Now, he didn’t come up to me and proclaim himself to be a “Radical RINO” (but it is in his Twitter feed) but he certainly came across as one of those “I’m a Republican Republican because I’m a Republican” the couple of times I’ve tried to “debate” issues important to the Republican base.  He certainly doesn’t like Conservatives that quote both the Platform and the NH Constitution (or the US one either) as a basis of what can be done or what should be done politically.  His face would screw up like a prune, his arms flap like one of those “air guys” you’d see flapping in front of a car dealer, and he just couldn’t seem to stop “SIGHing” as I was speaking – but  couldn’t seem to refute what I or others would pose to him.  Just pieces of paper “for show” is the what I got from him.

Figures.  Looks like he’s decided to disobey the rules under which he was elected – his previous actions seem to give this that came over the transom a bit more ring of truth – looks like I’ll be following up on this myself.

Note: if it is wrong, Jake is certainly able to put up a guest post here or even come on GrokTALK! to discuss – he has been invited!

In fact, he has not responded to the email listed on the NH GOP E-Board page.  So, let’s look at this a bit, shall we?

For the past year and a half Jake Wagner of Buffalo, New York has served as Chairman of the New Hampshire College Republicans. In this capacity, he routinely slanders conservatives in his own party and pushes his own personal political agenda (cheering activist federal judges who overturn democratically adopted constitutional amendments protecting traditional marriage).

I dunno about the traditional marriage part, but he certainly didn’t like ANY of the Conservative message that I was discussing with him.  This doesn’t surprise me at all. Oh wait – his twitter feed – I guess supporting traditional marriage is out for him and his own tweets makes it quite clear:

However, that is the “little stuff” – but this seems to be VERY problematic (emphasis mine):
Strangely, Mr. Wagner hasn’t been enrolled in college since May of 2013 when he dropped out of the institution he came to New Hampshire to attend (St. Anselm College). In September he attended a meeting of the UNH Chapter of College Republicans in his capacity as NH College Republican Chairman. When a member of the UNH Chapter confronted him about the fact that he was no longer enrolled in college, Mr. Wagner replied that he had plans to enroll at UNH-Manchester in the Spring. However, when the UNH Chapter officers conferred with the registrar at that campus in early February, they were shocked to find out that he had never enrolled.
Now, I’m just ordinary schlub unacquainted with the College Republicans, but this seems to be a two-fer:
  • A lie to members
  • A lie to the NH GOP Executive Board (as he is still listed here)
If the information sent to me is true, he is on the E-Board under false pretenses (and I bet he was one that would have been adamantly against issuing that Resolution against Medicaid Expansion too!)
Confronted with this information the UNH Chapter sent a letter to Mr. Wagner and several other members of the Republican State Establishment asking that he resign or face impeachment. Now, however, it appears as though moderate Republicans are closing ranks around him to defend him from the fact that he is serving as chairman in clear violation of the College Republican Constitution and the principles of the New Hampshire College Republican Federation. It is a very sad day for College Republicans in New Hampshire.
Such a gentleman – but this seems, more and more, to be a generic problem amongst Republicans:  you don’t get to make your own rules.  If you were elected under certain provisions and condition, and those conditions have changed, one would think you would be responsible enough to abide by those provisions. It is selfish, unTRUSTworthy, and downright wrong not to gracefully resign.  And as far as Establishment Republicans enabling this behavior (if as true as the allegation seems to make it), they are complicit for this as well if true.  The question there, is why?  Why hold on to what you are not entitled?  Why support him doing this?
This next part I personally know to be true indeed.
It’s ironic that this young man, who enjoys calling Tea Party Republicans and Liberty Activists “wacko-birds” and “unelectable crazies,” has been the beneficiary of such a neurotically impulsive defense by moderates.

Numerous examples in his Twitter feed – in fact, I was sent some tweets that are no longer in his feed  that speak to this as well.  I do remember a while ago when Scott Brown spoke in Nashua at an NH GOP fundraiser, a group of Second Amendment supporters (with a large Republican contingent among them) came out to protest his stance on gun control (he’d be ok with a ban on modern sporting rifles – you know, those EVIL black rifles that aren’t even allowed in some states for game hunting – they aren’t powerful enough).  Well, out came Jake and a small handful of other college aged Republicans waving pro-Scott pieces of paper.  They didn’t stay out for very long – being in the standard Republican blue sports jackets, shirts and ties, they were WAY under dressed for the winter temperatures.  Most of the S.A. supporters laughed at their folly.
Oh, and this as well:
We have attached to this email a number of photos documenting the behavior we have described above as well as a text of the letter sent to Mr. Wagner, the Federation and the Party Establishment and a link to a short WMUR article on the matter.  No other news outlet grasps the importance of this situation or is willing to take a stand in the way that we believe GraniteGrok might. We strongly encourage you to research this matter further.
Thank you for all that you do on behalf of the Conservative Movement!

Sincerely,
Anonymous

I have had several people now say the same thing that the WMUR article does:  “Wagner did not return requests for comment”.  I emailed him at the email address shown under the Executive Board of NH GOP to give him a chance to respond – either by guest post or by coming on GrokTALK!.

Let’s see if he will take up the challenge.

Oh, I forgot – here is the Letter, Call for Resignation,  sent to Mr. Wagner requesting him to resign as his student status had lapsed.  It was signed by:

Michael Mignanelli, Vice President
Sarah Jasper, Communications Director
Ashley Zabriskie, Treasurer
Sarah Bogert, Secretary
(Chapter President Phil Boynton has withdrawn his support for this letter since its initial submission)
