Notable Quote – Fr. Robert Sirico

Many of the confusions of our age rest on a loss of certain crucial distinctions. The most apparent is the distinction between rights and privileges. John Hospers, my philosophy professor at the University of Southern California, used to say we have undergone a “rights inflation.” As in a monetary inflation, the value of the common unit of measurement has been drastically watered down. For all the talk about rights, we lack a clear understanding of what constitutes meaningful rights.

–  Fr. Robert Sirico, President of the Acton Institute

An unalienable Right is one based on being alive – Freedom of Speech, Expression of Religion, and the like.  It requires no action on the part of anyone else to exercise and use.  The feminists and the Left want us to believe that having all of us paying for a woman’s contraceptives is a right – it is an entitlement because it is only accomplished by Government first taking the resources from someone else to give to another – that is NOT a right.

But that comes from not having pushback from those of us that know better.  The Left achieves its goals by redefining the language out from underneath us – and low information people not knowing the difference (or complaining).
