"...governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed." - Granite Grok

“…governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.”

The full line from the US Declaration of Independence is: “That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.”  Meaning that the American philosophy that we allow ourselves (we give our consent) to be governed by our elected Representatives.  Which also means that there can be a time where that consent, if given in the past, can be withdrawn in the current period or some time in the future?  Are we starting to see a tipping point where that consent is starting to be withdrawn?  We have already heard from Connecticut and have commented on the situation there that it seems that the vast majority of gun owners have decided that they do not consent to the odious firearm statutes that have turned law abiding citizens into Class D felons simply for having purchase something that was legal in the past and are now illegal.  And that has declared them to be on the same moral level as sex offenders (for having to register with the State).

We heard that in NY that other gun owners are in non-compliance with the hastily passed SAFE Act that equals the regulations in Connecticut and those in NJ are starting to do the same:

(emphasis mine, reformatted):

SARATOGA SPRINGS — Nearly a thousand gun registration forms were turned into ashes Sunday.  The forms are used for people to register with New York State Police firearms that meet the state’s definition of military-style assault weapons…NY2A co-founder Jake Palmateer said the goal is for people not to register their assault weapon as an act of civil disobedience.  “We are opposed to registration because the evidence is clear that registration leads to confiscation,” he said.  He and others hope that so few people will fill out the forms, that the registry portion of the SAFE Act “collapses under its own weight.” He estimates that less than 3,000 New York assault weapons have been registered and he says State Police estimated that there are several hundred thousand. The gun industry believes the number may be high as 1.2 million, according to Palmateer.

And now hear the same thing coming out of New Jersey that seems to mirror these other States:

If not for nothin’, this will certainly put Gov. Chris Christie on point with the rumors of a Prez run.  Primaries generally bring out the more conservative voters and on the Republican side, that means a lot of gun owners.  He can no longer tippy-toe just for NJ – he’ll have a hard time bringing gun control to a national level.

Yes, this post looks like it is about gun control – but it isn’t.  How much will you (even if grudgingly) consent to, but what is your tipping point?
