Dear Dr Sowell,

I respect your erudition and judgement, especially on matters of policy.
But on this matter of practical politics, I respectfully submit that you are wrong:

The Elephant, or rather the RINO, in the room for the GOP is the war declared by the Establishment GOP, including Mitch McConnell, on the conservative grassroots: Instead of running towards the grassroots who will fund and work the streets for their campaigns with conservative policies, the old guard are repelling those roots, and the rejection rankles.

Everywhere we look, established Republicans are abandoning principle and giving the Democrats everything they want whether it be the debt ceiling, attempts at amnesty, or state lawmakers adopting Medicaid expansion. These people need to be expelled from the GOP if the GOP is serious about its platform. Otherwise, there is no need for a GOP. Let us be honest about these Democrats in R clothing, and make them run as Democrats so we can defeat them with Republicans of principle.

Here’s the thing – there is no value in a Republican majority if it continues to expand the Leviathan at the expense of liberty. I don’t want these bozos to have their comfortable committee chairmanships and control of the favor factory – I want them to offer real proposals to slash government.

In DC, Boehner gave the Dems their debt ceiling increase by using Democrat votes, because he wouldn’t offer a more conservative option that 218 republicans would vote for.
In NH, with the Senate 13:11 GOP, six RINOs gave the Dems exactly what they wanted on Medicaid expansion – how do we know? Because 100% of the Dems voted for, and 50% of Republicans voted against the GOP bill!

These people must go, and if McConnell declares war on his base, he must go too – voting record or no.

Remember Limbaugh? “Conservatism wins every time it’s tried”?
Try a little conservatism, GOP – you might be surprised.

Given the choice between vote-buying and bankruptcy sooner, or a bit less vote-buying and bankruptcy later, many conservatives are rejecting both.

In a three way race, 40% is king – ask Clinton.
In a three way race with a decent libertarian/conservative, 35-40% might generate a real upset.

Evil GnomeIn conclusion, Romney was a good man, but he failed to excite the base, and you must not forget the second piece – John H Sununu deliberately alienated the libertarian wing of the party at the RNC in August 2012 by working to exclude them wherever possible.

The war was not declared by the grassroots, but the torches and pitchforks are out all over the country. GOP, we have a problem.
